I was going to answer your question, but after reading your sorry posts toward rbell over the last few pages, I am not going to waste my time..
Jesus said to not feed the pearls to the swine, so why would I share how God has used CC in my life with you if you will just trample my testimony...
You deserve to be ignored...
How dare you play God!!!
Got news for you... you did not have a revelation... or Word of Knowledge or Prophecy...God did not tell you to tell us anything....
Are you Pentecostal?... do you speak in tongues?
Well maybe if you do, you can understand this.. . wallawalladingdong!
I am so glad, I was removed from the bondage that you people still live in.
In Christ there is liberty... Get used to different types of Music... Heaven will be full of it.
wow! I typed an inflamed response and then erased it as all the steam left. My heart is heavy. I'd rather cry instead. To compare the hymns Mike listed with infidelity . . .
And what will that help Tim? Leave the unsaved world to think that God can only work on Sundays? Within four walls? In churches of certain numbers? In buildings that don't house guitars?
Or worse yet that those with the sharpest tongues win?
You and I both know that God doesn't work in a box. He works magnificently and grandly and in the strangest and oddest places!
And what we think of as tradition now was pushing the envelope at one time!
Tim, please don't leave the BB over this.
We need as many voices of reason around here that we can get.
Look at it this way.
BGTF made this statement.
With such a lack of musical knowledge, BGTF has no business commenting on music, or having his comments taken seriously.
I have taken exactly zero of his comments seriously ever since he made that statement.
It cuts both ways. If the definition is unknown, then it's only presumption to call the songs you like "spiritual songs."
What is an hymn? The word "hymn" is actually a Greek word. What did the Greeks think an hymn was? (Dictionaries are sadly inadequate for researching this subject.)
One Scriptural clue we have is the context in which Paul used the word "hymn." It was in contrast to a raucous decorum (being drunk with wine, wherein is excess). That fact alone disqualifies anything remotely boisterous as being an hymn.
I would agree that it's important what the Bible says a "hymn" is...that was my point...not what BGTF says it is.
the "boisterous" comment...honestly I've not thought of it that way.
Although the primary antecedent to the "drunk with wine" clause is the "Be filled with the Spirit" clause.
That's right. Where drunkenness is an excess of riot, a Spirit-filled life is one characterized by moderation and peace. . . peace being a principle fruit of the Spirit.
Most of the songs in the songbooks called "hymnals" fail this definition...
Most praise our works.. not His...
BTW, I thought I asked for this thread to be closed...
mods?
Since I started it, I want to close it... there has been so much slander to our brothers and sisters that praise God through modern worship, that this thread is now making me sick...
to call them fornicators, and mistresses.. is simply unchristianlike...
Please close this thread and ship it off to Archive Hell!!!
I started this thread to talk about Casting Crowns' concerts.. and it has been continuously hijacked by the anti-CCM crowd... to promote their agenda....
Thank you MC! This is the best post I have seen on the BB in a long time. It makes me sad to know that this even needed to be said in the first place. No, what is sad is that I only find such ugliness on Christian, no less Baptist, boards...:tear:
ByGraceThroughFaith is promoting the idea that we shouldnt be listening to contemporary christian music because its a style that is also used by the lost. Secular rock for the "rock and roll" crowd, Celtic music for pagans, jazz for druggies, blues etc. He is promoting the idea that we should stick with the Hymns.
Well, theres something interesting in that post that I dont think anyone has brought up till now. (I could have missed it if it was)
Back to the quote...
ByGraceThroughFaith...
What business do you have listening to a form of music that those pagans use?
As he pointed out to me in another venue. Hymns are hymns. No one is being unfaithful. There was a time when these very hymns that are our tradition were new and perhaps radical.
