It does to you and me. Tom's point is, that in system of doctrine in the RCC, it carries a different meaning.

    (bolding mine)...

I was looking for a fellowship one time years ago and I actually visited a church that advocated that very thing. During a "small group" class that I was invited to sit in on, the leader said something close to this...

"Remember, its your duty to keep an eye on everyone in your sphere of influence who is a "member" of this church. If you see them doing ANYTHING that is inconsistant, and that they shouldnt be doing, and might be a bad testimony, you come and let us know who they are. We have some STRONG men who will go to them and talk to them."

I was stunned at such a blantant acknowledgment of legalism and phariseeism.

Needless to say, I shook the dust off and never returned.

    Normal, biblical discipline...yes.

What that place was advocating...NO! :tear:

I'd have seriously asked, "Can you show me the Scripture to support that method? Because I can show you where the person who sees someone else in sin is NOT to go to others first but to first go to the person themselves." and see what they say. That's just ridiculous.

In our church, when they are acting up, they usually sit by themselves in timeout.

Of course I work with the preschoolers, and might not work on a grownup :)

    Marcia,

I know. But this was actually a church of the "Cambellite" group, that uses only the name "Christian" in their name. (not Church of Christ)

    As in....

Rockwell St Christian Church. Broad Meadows Christian Church. South Side Christian Church, etc etc.

    Disciples of Christ?

Most of them have turned pretty liberal but I guess a few out there might be like this.

    Marcia,

No no. Not Disciples of Christ. That group, as you said, is pretty liberal.

This Church is not Disciples of Christ or Church of Christ.

But they are Cambellite. Just Cambellite.

They stress Baptism as strongly as the Church of Christers do, and are pretty legalistic.

They very much choose to de-emphasise their denominational background. They do everything possible to never mention it. They want to come across as just a non-denominational church.

They are exceedingly into GROWTH. They have gone from a small church of about 200 to a mega-church with 10,000 on Sunday morning in about 30 years. Their "youth" worship building probably seats 3000. Every Sunday morning police are dispached to direct traffic at the intersections around the Church.
