COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #35

Diane,

When are you going to join Nick in the swimming pool and take lessons yourself?

No time like the present!

Dan - taught myself how to swim in the pool at school during summertime recreation - many years ago!

In most areas, at least in Canada, it is easier for a woman to find steady work than for a man.

Cheers,

Jim

ya'll!! I had this weard dream!!! I dreamed it was Sunday morning and I didn't have anything prepared to preach! Then I woke up and it was Sunday morning and I still didn't have anything prepared to preach!! What made it even worse is that there was a woman there who blurted out--"I've got a sermon I can preach if Blackbird doesn't!!!"----Buuuuuuuuudddddy, Blackbird went ta "flippin'" through his Scofield--tryin' to find somethin'!!!!

Can I confess something??? I didn't learn how to swim until I was 25 years old!!! Now, Blackbird on the other hand----hatched from his mother's womb---kickin' and swimmin' like Mark Spitz!!!

I can swim just fine as long as I know my feet can touch the bottom!

Dan: In some areas, women can get jobs easier than men because menial jobs are assigned to women. The pay is very low...certainly not enough to support a family. It usually doesn't even pay a babysitter. :(

Dan, just more jobs available for women. Store clerks, office clerks and some factories. Not always what we want, but fills the needs, when the bills are collecting.

Cheers,

Jim

Boy did I get some stick about three years ago. I was asked to speak at a series of meetings down the road from here. I preached on Saturday night, and there on the flier for the event was name, and the speaker the next night was a woman preacher! Now, to many of you that may not mean much, but I am as IFB as they come and so are my supporters. Needless to say we did not make it real public, but my pastor was here about a month mater and the leaflet fell out of my Bible while we were talking! Did he have fun with that!

Dan---only in my dreams! Only in my dreams!!! Then if I dream it more than three or four times in a row---Blackbird will then consider havin' his alter/ego "committed!!!"

The last vicar of the church we attend was a woman. I had no problem with her, even though I disagree with female pastors.

It is the old adage about foreign missions. Here am I, Lord. Send her. They often plant churches, do a little "preaching" and especially bible teaching. Hmmmmmmmm double standard?

Cheers,

Jim

Blackbird - with some of the stuff you said here on the BB - I'm surprised someone else hasn't committed your alter-ego for you!

Dan - there are some who would like to lock me up!

Roger - funny story!

See you tomorrow folks for a minute while you all are asleep, and then after I get home from Youthreach.

By the way, a quick note. We get very little fellowship here so I am grateful for all of the cyber-friends God has given us here on the BB!

An early good night to all!

HI Everyone,
Nope Dan, not going to join Nick YET. I'm like Sue... I can swim as long as my feet can touch bottom. I have a fear of water. I can swim underwater. I can float, etc. but must touch bottom or I panic! Plus, there's no money for me to take lessons. Maybe later in the year.

Dr. Bob, that potato trick has helped me before. We do like our food a little salty but like Sue said, with ham..... it's already pretty salty.

Jobs around here are scarce for anyone. Women can babysit for $35. a week or possibly work in a grocery store but those jobs are few and far between. My previous work experience all now calls for 'certificates' or 'degrees'. I was a newspaper reporter for a few years when the kids were in high school but our paper is a once a week flier type thing and the editor, his wife and kids are 'it'!

There is no way I could travel into Atlanta and work. I cannot drive in that traffic. I talked to Gib on the phone this afternoon and he can vouch for me about the Atlanta traffic. He's going to try and get to Atlanta tomorrow before rush hour and it'll still be bad! A few years ago I worked nights at Wal-Mart from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. and then home schooled Nick. I'd sleep a few hours at supper time. I cannot tell you how awful that was.......

Hi Diane! I wondered where you were all day!

I can vouch for how bad Atlanta traffice was 30 years ago. It's got to be worse now! We used to drive through there on our way from Florida to Illinois and back. It was AWFUL!

Well, I guess I didn't 'knock on wood' often enough or I bragged too much about having such a healthy winter this year...I'm having Bronchial spasms! :(

My chest feels like I have a cement block setting on it, coughing, headache and raw throat (from coughing) and I am cold...I am NEVER cold!

I have already called off work tomorrow and I will not be sitting at the computer tonight. I am going to bed in about an hour with a heating pad and heavily medicated (outside and in).

I am hoping I can stop it before it gets any worse. I sure don't want to miss work anymore than I have to.

Praying for you, too, Sue as well as others on the BB list. Ugly winter you're having for certain sure.

Funny thing, just came home and had a message from our local Home Town Buffet (every city has a similar one) and "won" a free meal between now and Sunday!

When was the last time I ate there? Couple months back my business card was drawn for a free meal, so took the wife out and ate cheap!

And when we left, I dropped another card in the fishbowl. So it looks like that worked as they draw 10 each week and mine finally came up.

Will be taking the wife for an early Valentine's Dinner at the snazzy buffet it looks like!!

NO BEAN SOUP TOMORROW!

Wow, Sue, I am so sorry to hear you're sick! I hope you snap out of this quickly.

C.J.... any word on your brother? Still praying for him.

A home school mom (at swimming) had brought me a box of school books and CD roms that her children had outgrown. Nick spent a good part of the afternoon traveling the 'Oregon Trail'. I've died of scurvy a couple of times today already and got shot in a hunting accident once, also. They packed my wounds with all kinds of weird stuff tho and I recovered from that.

Jim's pretty down tonight. I'd appreciate prayer for his saddness. :(
