No, I asked how old do the old ways need to be to be God's ways?
50 years? 100? 500?
In 2058, when todays CCM is the old way will it then be God's way? Maybe we have to wait until 2108?

Tell ya what Roger,
Show us where Rock and Roll is pleasing to the Lord using Scripture only. -
Ccm?
Last year we visited a church that had a night service led by the youth group. They showed a video of a rap song called "Baby Got Bible". My wife recognized the song as a parody of a very vulgar video, and sure enough, I did some online research and found this to be true.
The pastor said he almost didnt let them use it in the service, but he agreed because he thought nobody would know of the vulgar song that it copied. His explanation of CCM was that the church was competeing with bright lights and other "fun stuff" for the kids. He says the church must entertain to keep people coming. I think he is dead wrong. We are supposed to go to church to worship God, not entertain ourselves.
After much research and Bible study and prayer, I have come to the conclusion that we can never be Godly when we are imitating the world.

Have you seen me defend Rock and Roll? Can you prove from scripture where country music pleases God? or Classical? or Baroque? Or pop? Or big band? Of course cannt show how Rock and Roll pleases God from scripture, any more or less than any other style.
A claim has been made that the old paths are God's paths and an attempt has been made to apply that to a style of worship music. If that is the case someone should b able to answer the question?
If the old paths are the good paths how old do they have to be? 50 years? 100? 500?
How far back do I have to go to find a path that pleases God?
As to the comment about "imitating the world" by another poster:
Have any of you ever sung the hymn "Joyful. Joyful We Adore Thee?" If so you are mixing the sacred (this hymn) with the secular (Europe's "national" anthem. )
If you sing "Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken" you are singing to to the tune of "Deutchland, Deutchland, Uber Alles." Is that acceptable? -
As far back as God's Word takes you.
That which is associated with the world does not belong in the Sanctuary. -
Okay, so no music after 100 AD should ever be used? Thats how far back God's Word takes me. -

One of the most disturbing things that I have read lately was the account of Rick Warren playing "Purple Haze" in church.
Jimi Hendrix music has no place in a worship service. And the urge to play it would not have occured if CCM based on rock and roll werent allowed in the church. The closer you get to a cliff, the easier it is to fall off. Do away with the worldly style of music and the temptation will no longer exist.

Maybe the solution to the OP is to have three services - Traditional, Contemporary, and Country/Southern Gospel.
BTW, you would be shocked at how traditional our one service is here - I just weary of arguments that are not applied across the board and that are based opinion.
On the OP, I think I would consider a balanced service, that possibly does not fit in either mould, but finds a happy medium. Folks who truly want to worship together shoudl be willing to "give a little" when it comes to their preferences in worship. -
-
No, the solution for the problem is for everyone to respect and accept their brothers and sisters. This, "I can't worship because it is not the style that is pleasing to God" is getting old...
Especially when there is no biblical proof for what style is pleasing to God.
I can worship in a traditional, bluegrass, southern Gospel, contemporary, Praise & Worship, or even in a Rock and Roll setting...
Why? Because I am not focused on others, I am focused on GOD!
I am so tired of others making Christians that are different from themselves feel like they are sinning just because they are not like them.
If you want to worship using CCM, go ahead.
If you want to worship using Hymns go ahead.
Good Grief, JUST WORSHIP. -
Linda, you did a great job of quoting Scripture....but none of the Scripture addresses "styles of worship."
Not to mention.......defining "traditional" and "contemporary" is a moving target anyway. What some would call "contemporary," others might call "traditional." -
However, this is a leadership failure, and has nothing to do with musical and/or service components.
To say that music from 200-400 years ago did not "imitate the world" in any way, shape, or form is not believable IMO. (that is, to say in "imitating the world" to say that a song was written that closely resembled one that was sung "in the world" at that time). -

Here is a link, the most un-biased I could find....
http://www.cephas-library.com/purpo...n_warren_hooks_the_church_up_with_the_un.html
I sang played "Cats in a cradle" a few weeks back to illustrate a sermon that we reap what we sow...
Just wanted to throw that out, so people can throw stones at me... -
The link wouldn't open for me. But the context was his welcome to the crowd at Angels stadium where they were having their anniversary service. It was meant as a joke. He wasn't trying to lead in worship or make Jimi Hendrix out to be a saint or even a believer.
I've used Garth Brooks "Unanswered Prayers" as an intro to a message about prayer. I've also used Tim McGraw's song about his dad to talk about what we would do if we only had a short time to live. And then pointed out that we all have a short time to live.
If Paul could quote heathen prophets, I guess I can use some heathen country music stars. -
