I will usually follow a recipe to the T the first time then modify it as my family prefers.
The only thing I don't change a lot are baking recipes because of the need for proper proportions.
Also, sometimes I cook a dish that I just make up but I do try to teach my kids the "recipe" if it's turned out good.
I hated to lose my grandmother's recipes when she passed away.
I don't want our favorite dishes to get lost when I die.
The poll wasn't up or didn't show up when I posted earlier. :D
I'm a lot like Ann. I also experiment a lot when I don't know what to cook or we are low of stuff. Some of our favorite dishes have come out of that tinkering. ;)
Once I make something my wife really likes I am not allowed to tinker with it AT ALL. I make a chicken casserole that she (and the rest of her family) love, but I would love to play with it and make it better. No dice. The same goes for several other recipes of mine. My wife has learned how to make the casserole herself, though, as she will make it when I am not home sometimes. Go figure.
Me too. I'm constantly requesting feedback/critique on new dishes from the eaters until I've got it just right where it suits everybody.
Yea, I relate with that. I'm on a meatloaf kick and it seems my second meatloaf was the one that pleased the most people, and I've liked two other recipes better since then, but everyone keeps mentioning how they liked the
second one, and I've hardly begun to experiment.
I might like to get that chicken casserole recipe from you. I cook a lot for my parents and that's something they would/could eat.
I have a VERY different meatloaf recipe you might want to try!
2.5 or so lbs. of meatloaf mix or ground beef (I like the mix - veal, pork, beef)
1 egg
1 cup seasoned stuffing mix crushed if it's big cubes
1 cup applesauce
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
