Has anyone done missionary work overseas and have you ever run into someone demon possessed? Tell me about the experience. Yesterday while out witnessing I ran into a man who cussed every other sentence, yet claimed to be a Christian and even had a Bible and tried to point things out to me! He had some scripture memorized, but his constant cussing and blaspheming of God by using his name in vain set off flags. I just wonder if he was demon possessed.

Can the fountain feed both fresh and salty water at the same time?
"Cussing" is not a dis-qualifier of salvation, it may be an indication of poor intellect, a lack of education, a diminished character, stunted maturity, and a follower; however, it is also a character flaw found in the wealthy, the intellectual, the highly educated, and those who desire to emphasize bully leadership. So station and situation have little to do with why one is compelled to cuss.
Most often cussing is pure addictive behavior to which one is shackled.
However, the same can be true of the one who constantly has impure thoughts, must be the center of attention, must be the constant joker, and the all to happy life of the party.
Cussing, as any compulsion that remains in the believer's life, is something that should be confronted by that person's own introspective analysis and dealt with according to the Scriptures. -

In fact he had a briefcase that he sat in a chair behind him, as he preached he turned around pulled out a .38 and described the power behind the gun, he put it down and grabbed a .45 automatic pointing down the isle he described its power, then he grabbed a .44 magnum and said this is the most powerful hand gun in the world. He set it down then he reached in his pocket and set the ammo cartridge in a row on the lip of the pulpit. He said as powerful as each of these guns are they have no power with the ammunition and that is how Christians are if they try to witness without the Power of the Holy Spirit with them they have no power. He got folks attention! -

And when a man starts pulling out pistols in the pulpit, I'm pulling my rump out of my seat and out the front door.

I believe in gun control. If there is a gun around I want to be in control of it!
Of course, had that moron been in Texas, as soon as the first gun came out 3 dozen men and women would have drawn their own pistols and had the guy covered in a split second! :D :D :D -

I left the presence of an Oklahoma preacher who blatantly cussed in private and even in public, because at that time there was no regret or embarrassment about his language, but such excuses and self justification. He would state that God overlooked that part of his living because of his great ability at leading people to to Lord. He flaunted the excess of language and living excusing it by using comparatives of his great ability in the military or as a mighty hunter and yet he was an embarrassment to the ministry.
The Scriptures states, " If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless." ( James 1:26)
I am not stating that a person, one raised as I was in such an environment, and one that was addicted to the use of such expletives, may not, upon occasion, falter. However, it is one thing to falter, and a whole other matter to excuse and continue with the attitude of God's approval and God will overlook.
What can one who is continually drunk bring to aid those who do not desire to drink?
What can one who is continually immoral bring to aid those struggling with immorality?
What can one who is blind do to lead those who are blind?
What can one who is mentally deranged do to bring aid to those who are mentally disturbed?
"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world." -

Getting back to the OP, I've encountered demon possession personally both here in the US and abroad. I've also had discussions with missionaries who have had similar experiences. My two experiences were varied but have stayed with me.
One, which I encountered abroad, was a man who followed our small group, of five, around for almost an hour harassing us and accusing us (according to our translator.) He was unkempt and his odor was pungent. There was something in his eyes that was unnerving as well. We had not identified ourselves as Christians at any point and were in the middle of a mid-morning prayer walk through a portion of a city where our missionaries were beginning to minister. Finally, we met up with a local pastor who recognized the situation and, in a manner that was amazing, confronted the man after verbally calling on the name of Christ. His possession manifested itself and in a voice that chills even today he spoke, in English, threats and condemnation. We then circled, held hands, and prayed audibly for the man and he became enraged and ran off.
The local pastor and missionary tried to intervene later on with the man at several points and reported some very strange manifestations. I've also spoken to missionaries who have been part of exorcisms. I do believe that the demonic world is very much a part of our reality. -

I entirely agree that a believer cannot be possessed.
