This stuff goes way back. No less than the London Baptist Assembly of 1689 issued this ruling:

Proceedings of the London Baptist Assembly of 1689

"Questions Proposed from the Several Churches, Debated, and Resolved
    . . . . .
    Q. Whether it be not necessary for the elders, ministering-brethren, and messengers of the churches to take into their serious consideration those excesses that are found among their members, men and women, with respect to their apparel ?

    A. In the affirmative. That it is a shame for men to wear long hair, or long periwigs, and especially ministers..."

Per J Hyles, Jesus never had a beard, he had sideburns. Not sure why it mattered?

You do need some pretty long hair to achieve the elaborate comb-overs many of these preachers sport, it would cascade over the ears if they didn't keep it combed 'up and over'.

Jesus definitely had a beard, as Isaiah said it'd be yanked out. And most likely, he had his hair cut fairly short, as did most Jewish men of that time/place, in Roman style. Remember, Isaiah said there'd be nothing special about His appearance.

A good book that was researched fairly well is The Man Nobody Knows (Bruce Barton, 1920) While an old work, Barton tried to show how Jesus lived as a man, how He worked as a carpenter, what He looked like, how He dressed, etc.

    WOW!
I didn't know their were any pictures of Jesus. lol

I remember seeing a t.v. show as child about the passion of Jesus. They interviewed a Roman soldier afterward that stated into the microphone, "surely, this man was the Son of God". I was amazed!!

For several years I believed the crucifixion of Jesus had been video taped by a news camera crew.

    Peace to you

Back in the early 80s at my first church, a lady was calling me out for saying that we did not know what Jesus looked like

She showed me the picture of Jesus in her Bible.

Well, we do know a bit; John described His head (wooly white hair) and feet (like brass/burned in a furnace).

from the first chapter of Revelation:
"I, John....saw....One like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet....His hair...white like wool...His feet like unto fine brass...burned in a furnace....And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, 'Fear not; I am the First and the Last. I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore'"

    Hallelujah!

Regarding Jerome’s Falwell report, I sincerely doubt Billy Graham ever had “hair down his back.” Falwell must have been speaking “ministerially.”

That photo in post #20 shows hair that Falwell at the time would never have approved of.

Yes, Guy Penrod as he was under Falwell, then he left to sing for Bill Gaither and now look at him!

Yeah, and Falwell's pal Francis Schaeffer had a bigger mullet than Graham ever did!

To be honest, I feel facial hair on females in the pulpit much more of an issue.

I tell you what, that fellow must never have worked outside in cool weather.

When its airish outside and I'm having to drive tposts into partially frozen ground to put up welded wire pasture fence, I NEED my big bushy beard to keep my face from freezing. I often get icicles on my beard then. Can you imagine how cold I'd be without it?

As Phil Robertson says, God gave men whiskers for a reason. Grow em out. If he'd wanted to make us look like women he would've not given them to us.

Well true I'm sure it would but it would demonstrate to them just how spiritually mature their pastor actually was. Seeing people confronted with various situations reveals that.

That pastor is with the Lord, and having met him and heard him preach (over 20 years ago) I'd consider him to have been spiritually mature with much commendable fruit, despite the silly (IMO) conviction about facial hair. I also have to correct my post. It was not while the missionary was on furlough. He'd gotten a moose tag and had a picture taken with the nice bull he'd bagged. Just seeing that pic was enough for the withdrawal of support.

There is more scripture to support beards, especially in the Old Testament , I know of no scripture that condems it.
