Rather than sidetrack another thread, I am repeating a question here.
There are certain "issues" (or conflicts that became the focal point of 99% of the writing and debate of an age). Not that other doctrines are unimportant, just not the FOCUS of debate.
AD 100-300 it focused on the Canon
AD 300-600 focus on Deity of Christ
AD 600-1200 focus on person piety (monasticism)
AD 1200-1600 focus on Grace v works
AD 1600-1800 focus on Denominational distinctions
AD 1800-1900 focus on expanding the Kingdom (missions)
AD 1900-2000 focus on fundamentals of the faith
AD 2000-2100 focus on ___________
What would it be in our era? Open for suggestions!

The distinction of Christianity from other religions.
I believe this will be much needed as many are blurring those distinctions, i.e. New Age, Judeo-Christian, Shared family values. -
Dr. Bob, why don't you do a poll?

I think it is going to be on the relationship of works and faith, or the relationship of the Law and faith, something along those lines. It has already taken many forms and various views from classic reformed double imputation theology, new perspective on paul, MacArthur vs Hodges, etc. All of these shows various colors and sit on a spetrum to how obedience relates to faith etc and it seems to have been picking up steam in the last few years.

I really don't know, but I do find myself looking up often. To be silly, even a plane approaching the airport at dusk is pretty interesting to me.

I agree with Tim, if I read him correctly. A lot of peaple get bent out of shape if you proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ as the ONLY way to heaven. Yet, this is not our claim, but the claim of Jesus Himself. Considering the claims that He makes of Himself, you must decide, people of the world, He is either Liar, Lunatic, or LORD.
What say ye of Him? -

Bingo. The prevailing worldview is pluralism, and at this time it shows no signs of declining.
Secularism, also, as it is a corollary to pluralism (if all religious views are equally valid [pluralism], to an extent it follows that they are also irrelevant [secularism].) -

De-westernizing the church. Europe has lost its position as the center of gravity of the church; the church is being strengthened more and more by converts from the Third World. And Christians will find themselves evangelizing folks that the Muslims also seek to attract, which could lead to strife.

Wow. Great thoughts, some I hadn't consider.
I asked this question to an existential college student at the clinic today. He was Catholic and got burned out.
His answer? "Whatever".
Post-modernity may be part 3 of the issue
-
1. In doctrine, post-modernism
2. In ethics, homosexuality and other perversions
3. In evangelism, the exclusivity of Christ
