Help me understand then. Your reasoning for not going to the movies theatre is that a person of weaker faith my take offense. Might a person of weaker faith also take offense if they thought you were purchasing beer or wine?
What about going to a restaurant that sells beer. Might a weaker person believe that you would drink with your meal? Should you also avoid those places?
What about a sporting goods store? What if a weaker person thinks it a sin for a Christian to own a firearm? Should you refrain from going to a sporting goods store for fear they think you might purchase a weapon?
The point is that I can give a hundred other examples that you don't likely adhere to. Why are you singling out the theatre? You are correct I don't understand why you single out the theatre and don't worry about the other places. Please help me understand.

And you would be surprised how many unsaved people that I have ran into that think that going to the movies is not right.
So, suppose I am knocking on the door, of a neighbor, who has lost respect for me or thinks that I am a hypocrite, for going to the movies.

All I am saying, is there are more important things to consider. -

One of our favorite places to go is a studio movie grill where you can eat while you watch...it's a little touch of heaven.
At home we have a mini-theater and watch DVDs all the time. We actually usually watch more at home than at the movie theater.
We enjoy movies and love going out with other couples. Lots of fun. We use discernment and stay away from trash. You can be sensible about what movies you go see. There are lots of good movies out there, just be informed and reasonable.
I've never understood the fundamentalist view of never going to the movies. Just being honest. -

Hi matt
You said........
Now both grocery stores in my little town, have all the booz restricted to single isles of the store, so they are easy to avoid and yes I avoid them for that reason.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
--------------------------------------------------
Every restaurant in my town sells alcohol, so that can not be avoided;
Therefore, we do go out to eat, but don’t order booz.
As for sporting good stores: The subject of personal firearm ownership, has come up in messages and everybody knows that I am a gun owner.
--------------------------------------------------
You are right, there are other examples, but as you can see, I don’t single out theaters; That is just what this thread is about.
As for the hundreds of other areas where I might hurt the Lord’s testimony, I tackle them one at a time. -

We were at a yard sale a while back, and they had some old 50s & 60s music playing, and I remarked.....
“I like your taste in music.”....and I honestly think this messed up a future opportunity to witness to these people. Go figure.
I am learning to be more careful every day. -

Wow...so in order to witness effectively, we must not enjoy anything or go anywhere?

Kind of like the one that told us "Big Momma's House" is a "family-friendly movie".
My wife and I went to see a movie called "Failure to Launch" because it was filmed in our area and several people we know were in it. I think we ended up leaving after about fifteen minutes.
Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often. Because we don't have TV in our home, our kids usually aren't even aware of what movies are on.
I think the last movie we went to see as a family was "Night at the Museum".
Now, that having been said, we do have a very large collection of classic and family friendly movies and TV shows on DVD and our movie nights with family and friends is legendary, if I do say so myself, so it isn't like we don't ever watch any movies. -
Sex and Nudity: 6 (from 0 being none and 10 being porn)
Violence and Gore: 4
Profanity: 5
So from those ratings and seeing what it says, I'd not go to see it.
Let's see Night at the Museum: http://www.kids-in-mind.com/n/nightatthemuseum.htm
Sex and Nudity: 1
Violence and Gore: 4
Profanity: 1
So we'd see that movie. -
I rarely watch movies, I have never enjoyed fiction. I like good documentaries, lately I have been watching a great series on PBS about WWII. It does have some awful scenes at times showing hundreds of dead stacked upon another. My kids do not watch this.
The last time I went to the movies was to take my kids to see that famous dinosaur island movie by Disney. I can't even remember the name now.
My kids and I often watch parts of movies on YouTube. Last night we were watching the Little Rascals. We've watched a few scenes from the Marx Brothers and Abbott and Costello. The kids love this stuff, it is still funny.
Last night we watched this, it is hilarious. I love when Spanky says,
Are you gonna eat me up Uncle George?, I don't think I'll taste so good, Mom says I'm spoiled! :tongue3:

Lots of fun. Never had a speaking role, but hey, I'm married so I'm used to that.
Been in feature film from Hollywood -
- Dances with Wolves
- Far and Away (got to be up close and personal with Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise)
- Son of the Morning Star
- Glory (my favorite, since it has a happy ending)
- Star Ship Trooper (filmed in Casper and our unit donned aluminum foil; son catered pizzas on the set!!)
- Gettysburg (was called Killer Angels when we were filming)
Been in Visitor Center National Park Service films -
- Antietam, MD
- Harper's Ferry, WV
- Appomattox/Sailor's Creek, VA
- Gettysburg, PA
- Manassas, VA
- Mansfield/Pleasant Hill, LA
- Champion's Hill, MS
- Probably many more; they "trade" action scenes in making a film for the 20-30 minute presentations
Been in TV shows -
- North & South: Book II (episodes)
Okay, this was a tad BEFORE I started in movies (ala Korean War era)
This is a little more recent . . -
I've been to the movies maybe 3 times in the past 7 years, two of those times was to see the Passion of the Christ, and the third time we watched a Fat Albert movie that was pretty good. I don't personally think there is anything wrong with watching a movie at a theatre or at home, you just half to be careful. We don't go more because of the cost and mainly because, plain and simple, Hollywood doesn't put out much worth watching. I recently saw a preview on TV for the Yogi Bear movie that's coming out, it's rated PG, really, why is it necessary for Hollywood to add content that Yogi Bear wouldn't be rated G?

Dr Bob..
We have yearly re-enactments of the battle that took place in the area where I live, the Battle of Richmond Ky.
If you ever make that one let me know. I would like to see you in "action".
We have 2 houses that are still standing since the battle, and were used as field hospitals during the battle. They have both been restored as close as possible to original condition, and are now maintained tourist attractions.
There is also a Church in the battlefield area that is still in use, and if you visit they can show you the damaged places that were caused by getting hit by cannonballs. -

First the Beverly Hillbillies' debacle (not to mention the sequel), then Wild, Wild West, and now this?
What's next? "Quentin Tarantino Presents: Mayberry"? -
ETA - I just looked at the PG movies on Kids In Mind and Air Bud has a rating of 1-2-1 (sex/nudity; violence; profanity) and that was rated PG. The sex/nudity? A kiss. The violence? "A man throws basketballs at a boy's face repeatedly causing a slightly bloody nose. A dog bites a man's arm. A man gets hit in the leg and face, and a couple of men get hit in the head with a basketball. Scuffles, chases, falls." Profanity? "Two mild obscenities." That's it. Actually I'll bet it was the profanity that gave it the rating. -
