    "If it's going to be, it's up to me." NOT. That sort of "my part" in salvation = works. Works that is the basis of every false religion.

    The foundation of churches 500 years ago that broke from the papist works-cycle is Grace ALONE. His grace. Period.

    Believing (literally "faithing") is the only thing we "do" without "doing" anything. It is something you "have", Either you have it as a gift of a sovereign God for eternal life or you do not.

    When I Survey The Wondrous Cross ~ Isaac Watts

    1 When I survey the wondrous cross
    on which the Prince of glory died,
    my richest gain I count but loss,
    and pour contempt on all my pride.
    2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
    save in the death of Christ, my God!
    All the vain things that charm me most,
    I sacrifice them through his blood.
    3 See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
    sorrow and love flow mingled down.
    Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
    or thorns compose so rich a crown?
    4 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
    that were a present far too small.
    Love so amazing, so divine,
    demands my soul, my life, my all.

    O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus

    Trevor Francis
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
    Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
    Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
    Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
    How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
    How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
    How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
    ’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
    And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!

    He left His Father's throne above,
    So free, so infinite His grace;
    Emptied Himself of all but love,
    And bled for Adam's helpless race;
    'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
    For, O my God, it found out me.

    This is the theme song of our church. Seldom a month goes by without someone requesting it.

    Jesus I My Cross Have Taken

    Henry Lyte
    1. Jesus, I my cross have taken,
    All to leave and follow Thee.
    Destitute, despised, forsaken,
    Thou from hence my all shall be.
    Perish every fond ambition,
    All I’ve sought or hoped or known.
    Yet how rich is my condition!
    God and heaven are still my own.

    2. Let the world despise and leave me,
    They have left my Savior, too.
    Human hearts and looks deceive me;
    Thou art not, like them, untrue.
    O while Thou dost smile upon me,
    God of wisdom, love, and might,
    Foes may hate and friends disown me,
    Show Thy face and all is bright.

    3. Man may trouble and distress me,
    ’Twill but drive me to Thy breast.
    Life with trials hard may press me;
    Heaven will bring me sweeter rest.
    Oh, ’tis not in grief to harm me
    While Thy love is left to me;
    Oh, ’twere not in joy to charm me,
    Were that joy unmixed with Thee.

    4. Go, then, earthly fame and treasure,
    Come disaster, scorn and pain
    In Thy service, pain is pleasure,
    With Thy favor, loss is gain
    I have called Thee Abba Father,
    I have stayed my heart on Thee
    Storms may howl, and clouds may gather;
    All must work for good to me.

    5. Soul, then know thy full salvation
    Rise o’er sin and fear and care
    Joy to find in every station,
    Something still to do or bear.
    Think what Spirit dwells within thee,
    Think what Father’s smiles are thine,
    Think that Jesus died to win thee,
    Child of heaven, canst thou repine.

    6. Haste thee on from grace to glory,
    Armed by faith, and winged by prayer.
    Heaven’s eternal days before thee,
    God’s own hand shall guide us there.
    Soon shall close thy earthly mission,
    Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days,
    Hope shall change to glad fruition,
    Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.

    Music by Ludwig van Beethoven (1824), lyrics by Henry J. Van Dyke (1852-1933).

    Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
    God of glory, Lord of love;
    Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
    Praising Thee, their sun above.
    Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
    Drive the dark of doubt away;
    Giver of immortal gladness,
    Fill us with the light of day!

    All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
    Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
    Stars and angels sing around Thee,
    Center of unbroken praise:
    Field and forest, vale and mountain,
    Blooming meadow, flashing sea,
    Chanting bird and flowing fountain
    Call us to rejoice in Thee.

    Thou art giving and forgiving,
    Ever blessing, ever blest,
    Well-spring of the joy of living,
    Ocean-depth of happy rest!
    Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
    All who live in love are Thine:
    Teach us how to love each other,
    Lift us to the joy divine.

    Mortals, join the mighty chorus,
    Which the morning stars began;
    Father-love is reigning o’er us,
    Brother-love binds man to man.
    Ever singing march we onward,
    Victors in the midst of strife,
    Joyful music leads us sunward
    In the triumph song of life.

    Oh Great God of Highest Heaven

    VERSE 1
    O great God of highest heaven
    Occupy my lowly heart
    Own it all and reign supreme
    Conquer every rebel power
    Let no vice or sin remain
    That resists Your holy war
    You have loved and purchased me
    Make me Yours forevermore

    VERSE 2
    I was blinded by my sin
    Had no ears to hear Your voice
    Did not know Your love within
    Had no taste for heaven’s joys
    Then Your Spirit gave me life
    Opened up Your Word to me
    Through the gospel of Your Son
    Gave me endless hope and peace

    VERSE 3
    Help me now to live a life
    That’s dependent on Your grace
    Keep my heart and guard my soul
    From the evils that I face
    You are worthy to be praised
    With my every thought and deed
    O great God of highest heaven
    Glorify Your Name through me

    Before the Throne of God Above

    1 Before the throne of God above
    I have a strong, a perfect plea;
    a great High Priest, whose name is Love,
    who ever lives and pleads for me.
    My name is graven on his hands,
    my name is written on his heart;
    I know that while in heaven he stands
    no tongue can bid me thence depart,
    no tongue can bid me thence depart.
    2 When Satan tempts me to despair
    and tells me of the guilt within,
    upward I look, and see him there
    who made an end of all my sin.
    Because the sinless Savior died,
    my sinful soul is counted free;
    for God the Just is satisfied
    to look on him and pardon me,
    to look on him and pardon me.
    3 Behold him there! the risen Lamb,
    my perfect, spotless righteousness;
    the great unchangeable "I AM,"
    the King of glory and of grace!
    One with himself, I cannot die,
    my soul is purchased by his blood;
    my life is hid with Christ on high,
    with Christ my Savior and my God,
    with Christ my Savior and my God.

    The Sacred Throne, by John Kent

    1. Beneath the Sacred Throne of God
    I saw a river rise;
    The streams were peace and pard'ning blood
    Descending from the skies.

    2. Angelic minds can ne'er explore
    This deep, unfathomed sea;
    'Tis void of bottom, brim, or shore,
    And lost in Deity.

    3. I stood amazed, and wondered when,
    Or why this ocean rose,
    That wafts salvation down to men,
    His traitors and His foes.

    4. That sacred flood, from Jesus' veins,
    Was free to take away
    A Mary's or Manasseh's stains,
    Or sins more vile than they.

    5. Free to the sinner, dead to God,
    Who sought the road to hell,
    That trampled on a Savior's blood,
    And on His buckler fell.

    6. Triumphant grace, and man's free will,
    Shall not divide the throne;
    For man's a fallen sinner still,
    And Christ shall reign alone.

    A Good WORK that has not the Grace of God is not a GOOD WORK.
    Even songs can be good works.....PRAYER.
    We don't pray to have oceans of water, we do pray for Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

    If we lose privilege of Eternal Life on account of praising God. You can have my eternal life, loving God and praising him is worth more.

    Another John Newton hymn from his hymn book Olney Hymns, 1779.

    1. Poor, weak and worthless though I am
    I have a rich almighty friend;
    Jesus, the Savior, is His name;
    He freely loves, and without end.

    2. He ransomed me from hell with blood,
    And by His power my foes controlled;
    He found me, wandering far from God,
    And brought me to His chosen fold.

    3. He cheers my heart, my wants supplies,
    And says that I shall shortly be
    Enthroned with Him above the skies;
    Oh! what a friend is Christ to me.

    4. But, ah! my inmost spirit mourns,
    And well my eyes with tears may swim,
    To think of my perverse returns:
    I’ve been a faithless friend to Him.

    5. Often my gracious friend I grieve,
    Neglect, distrust, and disobey;
    And often Satan’s lies believe,
    Sooner than all my friend can say.

    6. He bids me always freely come,
    And promises whate’er I ask:
    But I am straitened, cold and dumb,
    And count my privilege a task.

    7. Before the world that hates His course,
    My treacherous heart has throbbed with shame;
    Loath to forego the world’s applause,
    I hardly dare avow His name.

    8. Sure, were I not most vile and base,
    I could not thus my friend requite!
    And were not He the God of grace,
    He’d frown and spurn me from His sight.

    No need to pick everything to death. What must I 'do' to be saved asked the man in Acts 16..."Believe" on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" they said and so I 'did' that ...and now I'm saved. My belief...my doing....praise God. And I can still thank God for his grace that lets me (and anyone else) work out my own salvation.

    And The Hiding Place (usually credited to Jehoiada Brewer)

    1. Hail sovereign love, that first began
    The scheme to rescue fallen man;
    Hail, matchless free eternal grace,
    That gave my soul a hiding place.

    2. Against the God that built the sky,
    I fought with hands uplifted high;
    Despised the mansions of his grace,
    Too proud to seek a hiding place.

    3. Enwrapt in dark Egyptian night,
    And fond of darkness more that light,
    Madly I ran the sinful race,
    Secure without a hiding place.

    4. But lo! the eternal council rang,
    Almighty love arrests the man;
    I felt the arrows of distress,
    And found I had no hiding place!

    5. Vindictive justice stood in view,
    To Sinai's fiery mount I flew;
    But justice cried with frowning face,
    This mountain is no hiding place!

    6. But lo! a heavenly voice I heard,
    And mercy's angel soon appeared:
    He lead me on a pleasing pace,
    To Jesus Christ, my hiding place!

    7. Should seven fold storms of vengeance roll,
    And shake this globe from pole to pole:
    No thunder-bolt shall daunt my face,
    While Jesus is my hiding place!

    8. On him almighty vengeance fell,
    Which else had sunk a world to hell;
    He bore it for his chosen race,
    And thus became a hiding place!

    9. Roll on, thou sun, in rapid haste,
    And bring me to that constant feast,
    Where mirthful songs of sovereign grace,
    Are sung to him the hiding place.

    When Jesus hands me a command I don't ponder what its going to pay me, I just do it for free.

    Luke 10
    25And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”26And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” 27And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 28And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

    Acts 16
    30and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
    31They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

    Both say the same thing.

    Sufficient Grace
    by Dr Robert Griffin,
    Teaching Elder, Sovereign Grace Church of Central Wyoming
    (This song has a unique tune, but may easily also be sung to
    St Louis 8.6.8.6.7.6.8.6. "O Little Town of Bethlehem"

    I am redeemed by Grace alone
    My sin to Calv'ry borne;
    Sufficient Grace - He took my place
    And washed away the scorn.
    I cannot comprehend it:
    This Grace so strong, yet free
    To sinners giv'n a way to heaven
    God's Grace applied to me!

    With nothing to have purchased it,
    His Grace, not works, abound;
    Heaven secured by God's own Word
    Guilt passed, new life is found.
    But of my days yet on this earth
    Where sin does still oppress?
    God's Grace forgives, By Grace I live
    And claim Christ's righteousness.

    The same eternal Grace that saved
    My soul from deepest woe,
    Forgives my sin and frees within
    To live for Him below.
    No condemnation now I fear,
    For to the Law's demand
    No more a slave, through Grace I have
    God's Word on which to stand.
