I recently found your site while researching editions of the KJV and its English precursors. I prefer the KJV, but not necessarily only the KJV. I don't trust the vast majority of the modern versions which use the Alexandrian text.

    Welcome to the BB.

You might find the textual critic Wilbur N. Pickering's work, "The Identity of the New Testament Text IV" an interesting read. You can download his book in PDF for free or buy a paper back copy off Amazon.

I'll check it out. I've read some of Pickering's stuff in the past, but this is not a title I've read.

As a new member, I do have a couple of concerns. Perhaps this is the place to share some of them.
    1) There are very interesting topics brought up in the Baptist only forums, Are these kinds of topics discouraged in forums open to all?

    2) I can't really identify as a Baptist at this time, because I'm still coming to understand what various denominations believe. I trust the Bible as the inspired word of God and as such having the final say over anything written outside of the Bible. I still want to learn about the Baptist faith though. So often these days when visiting a church the beliefs of the church are rarely discussed other than perhaps major concepts.

Just as a member here any one start a like thread in a forum open to all.
One can always ask for that church's statment of faith if they have one.

Hello Charles, nice to meet you.

My name is Dave Gilbert and I've been here since July of 2018.
I also prefer the KJV, and have used it exclusively since the Lord called me by his grace in May of 1978 through the preaching of His word.
But it has been only within the past 17 years or so that I have taken to studying it, seriously, as He has commanded ( 2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Peter 2:2 ).

I see that it is through His word that we as believers can not only grow, but learn to divide it rightly...
In other words, as believers in Jesus Christ we have the privilege to learn of Him and His ways through what He has preserved for us and has given to us:

    The Scriptures.

I look forward to reading your posts in the coming days.

I'm not aware that they are, so ask away.
At this point I'd say, "Study the Bible as much as possible and decide for yourself where you stand" .
Don't concentrate on specifically studying any one "faith", as to me, there is only one...

But we as believers should not define ourselves by what others pin on us as a name, we should identify with who we are:
God's children by His grace and through the faith of Jesus Christ.

For example, believers were first called "Christians" at Antioch.
That was a name that was bestowed upon them by those outside of the faith, not within it.
But before that, all that they knew was that they believed on Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, or basically this:
    1 Corinthians 15:1-7.

"Baptist" is also a name that was bestowed upon a people holding certain beliefs, by those who did not.
Today there are many different kinds of "Baptist", but that was not always the case.

May God bless you richly in your studies and in your time here.:)

Welcome to our band of brothers and sisters who love our Lord and seek to grow in Christlikeness each day. Enjoy your time here, but remember that no matter what you say, some will disagree. Family. Dysfunctional, but hey that's what families do :)

I always love to have conversations about the words of God especially among fellow Christians. We can all learn from one another as iron sharpens iron.

I've been enjoying your comments and hope to continue future conversations. There is always something new in God's word that we can drink in and share. With a diverse crowd their will be disagreements though I hope they are good natured and filled with the Spirit.

Iron sharpens iron. It is good to have disagreement as it can focus us on the things we know and help us to resolve the things we are not so clear on. I will always rely on God's word first regardless of the source of information and trust always that the Spirit of God will guide me.
