I tend to see this in the same fashion as the Holy Spirit can give to us the right scriptures for the situation, as in witnessing to cultists!

Why would God deprive a majority of His Christians this "fresh revelation"through the years then?

Mainly I did a search of church history. Discounting the Azusa Street deception and it's spiritual children. God is speaking to some people I found. In Rome under persecution there were prophets. In church history and the modern day God speaks to some to make them believers. God speaks at all is the point. I have heard it said these are one time miracles and while that may be the case, He still speaks.

I will write my full testimony up tonight. I was brought to the faith by God giving a miracle to me as an unbeliever and bringing me out of apostasy by speaking to me.

If you want to say that people who speak forth the truth of Gods Word are prophets, I have no prob w that; however, I would not use the term.

If you are saying that there is “new” revelation from God, then we need to codify it w the 66 books of the Bible. Afterall, you would be saying that its Gods Words, so it should be in that case. Can you imagine how convoluted and jacked up the Word of God would be if every yahoo loke me would start claiming inspiration?

Miracles are a different issue. You're moving the goal posts.

I'm talking about gifts assigned to particular people as they were at Pentecost. Please name the people, not the miracles.

I believe in modern miracles. I believe God CAN gift anyone he wishes and has done so in history. But I don't know if any since the Acts period of history. They've all been proven to be phonies.

If you believe there are some modern individuals gifted with prophecy or any other sign gift, please name them.

Exactly! And those on the "continuationist" side generally admit this. The question is, why are they now so different? Why are the individuals claiming giftedness putting forth such cheesy cheap miracles, easily replicated by magicians and hypnotists?

Ok, I get what you are saying. There hasn't been a prophet in centuries. The last ones I know of were pre-Nicaea. Still problematic for those claiming prophecy stopped with the apostle's ministry. Other than that rare once in a life experiences. I'll still share my testimony.

My point was that if there was new and fresh revelations from God today, why would he not have given them before, did not prior saints need that also?

God can still do healings and miracles, but that is His sovereign will, as none gifted to do such today!

How and why would the Holy Spirit of truth be involved in those persons claiming to have gifts now to do signs and wonders yet are big time sexual sinning and/or money get rich scams?
    Revelation 22:18!

Rummaging around in hyperspace (including Roku) I see Jim Bakker is in business again with something called The Prophets House wherein 21st century "prophets" will gather to loudly warn against the coming wrath.

He is asking for support on his 80th birthday to fund the House and also it seems also a house for unplanned pregnancies for unwed mothers to avoid participation in our present day baby holocaust.

These in the expectation of the Imminent Return.

In particular i agree with Yeshua1 - the cannon is closed, we have all we need in the extant manuscript copies of the inerrant word.

There is no problem in "Speaking Prophetically". Taking what is already there in the scripture concerning things to come and expounding upon them in an attempt to determine what (if anything) is looming on the prophetic horizon.

I expected this verse. However, it has nothing to do with the Canon. It only has to do with John's revelation.

Revelation 22:18-19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

One can be gifted by God with insight into how the prophecies of the Bible can be applied today, as to how we can learn from the prophets, but no new revelation being given forth by God!

Bible states that the NT is built upon the Rock of Jesus, with the already laid foundation of the OT prophets/NTApostles, so canon was indeed closed, as none since John could qualify to be either prophet or Apostle!
