Jack Hyles claim to be a brother in Christ. We may disagree with him in many areas, but I am sure some will disagree with everyone on this board from time to time.
1John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
1John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Hold the presses. Ben Hall makes his first post on the BB about Dr. Hyles and agrees to provide tapes and numbers and I have yet to hear from him. What's up!?
Also, I have heard my pastor say that this man was a good man and I believe him. Maybe the reason you all don't like him is because he preached and believed the King James Bible. -
Homebound, don't make such statements based on ignorance.
He wasn't always KJVO. It wasn't until he thought he would be more popular did he change his position. Dr. Bob knows all about this one.
I don't like him because the gospel he preached was absurd and distorted, he didn't believe in repentance (a necessary componet of salvation), he was KJVO, he cheated on his wife, he raised a hellion who was literally caught with trash (whom Jack thinks was such a mature Christian), he is guilty of so much of the easy believism, he was more focused on rules than truth, etc.
I realize people have met him, been a part of his church, etc., but he is a liar, a loser, and as I have said before, probably wishing he had a tall glass of lemonade. -
Again, some proof please.

You do know that the man is dead? Get off the horse already, he doesn't need to be beat anymore.

James 1:22, "But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves."
Mt. 4:19, Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men."
If you are not a catcher of men I would question your fishing and following. I would also question you as a doer. -
Jack Hyles came to our church in Knoxville several times when I was in junior/senior high in the mid/late '80's. [We sponsored the Dogwood Bible Conference with two other churches in the area - one of which was Temple Baptist Church in Powell, TN, that has an ad on baptist board even as I am typing!] I saw him preach several times. Although his sermons were extremely long, and he kept going off topic, he was very engaging, and did indeed possess a great deal of insight. Our youth group also went to Hyles Anderson College for a visit.
Was he a militant fundamentalist? Yep.
Was he extolling a particularly rigid form of legalism? Absolutely.
Did he espouse the doctrine of KJVO and claim that it was Scriptural? Yes - at least he did back then.
Did he present the Gospel and the Way to Heaven?
Each and every time I heard him. -

Perhaps Benn Hall is a fire-starter or troll.

So we've noticed. Some folks truly don't want to discuss issues.

Testing, 1, 2, hello?
Is this thing on?
Ben, where are you?
You made some serious allegations.
Are you going to support them?
Is this plugged in? -
To Everyone,
Please be easy on Ben Hall. Do not press on him hardly, asking for the proof of Hyles' sermons with tapes.
I dislike Hyles' way. I saw, heard, and met Dr. Hyles 7 times. I thought, he was the greatest preacher ever I seen.
But one thing that I never think of him. My friends told me, they listened him preaching several times, they said, he never preach on salvation at once when he visited churches while he was on travel.
I told them, yes that's correct. I saw and listen his preaching in 4 different states while heard his sermons 7 times. I never hear him preaching on salvation at one time.
My friends told me, Dr. Hyles always often preaching and share of his own testimony and miracles in his own life as he boasted in pride. I told them, yes that is true.
Often, I watched him preaching, he always talk about mircale, miracle, miracle, miracle, miracle, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, numbers of soul saved, blessing etc... boast on his own ministry as he boasted in pride.
I never think of his preaching before. I did remember his sermons very well. He talked about HIMSELF almost all the time, not talk about Jesus Christ and salvation, that is fact.
I remember in 1991, Dr. Hyles came to Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, MI. When I was student at MBC.
He shared about his church on miracles. I agree with David Cloud saying on HYles, he called him, "Hylesostal" (Pentacostal). Dr. Hyles talked about the miracles happened in Hammond in 1990, he told to his staffs, please bring 63,000 people from Hammond to the church. The staffs told him, impossible to doing it. He forced them to doing it. He boatsed and saying 63,000 people did came to his church on Pentacost Sunday, and about 4,300 souls saved on a single Sunday morning, and over 1,000 souls baptized follow the same day - all day. Praise the Lord!
Dr. Hyles boasted about his own ministry because he seems successful with the numbers of souls saved.
I remember back in 1997, I read Sword of the Lord maginaze. I saw the advesterise about Hyles-Anderson College. It boasts there was 5,400 souls saved during single Sunday morning, and over 3,000 baptized follow the same day. And there was about 53,000 souls saved during year 1996. I don't like that kind of advertise, because I think Dr. Hyles seems being boast and pride, thinks he's world's greatest preacher.
Intersting, when I was at Hyles' funereal in Hammond. Ms. Beverly Hyles spoken on her husband. She said, Dr. Hyles told her, plea that she do not telling anyone that he having heart trouble. He kept his secert for 5 years, not let anyone hear about him. I figured it our that was from year 1996 to 2001. No wonder why Dr. Hyles wanted his college to be advertise on Sword of the Lord maginaze to be boast and being ego himself.
What's more? I heard the last time, I think in year 1998 or 1999, First Baptist Church annoucned there was 15,000 souls saved during a single Sunday morning(Pentacost Day) service, and 5,400 were baptized follow the same morning.
It made me so diguist to hear it.
I guess, that Dr. Hyles being boast about his church is being success by numbering of souls saved, that he being pride himself. I do not like his attitude, sorry to saying it.
My friend who graduated from Midestern Baptist College, he told me, when he was boy. He grew up in Gray, Indiana. He lived only 5 miles away from First Baptist Church of Hammond. He was brought to that church, and was baptized. He said to me, he thought, he was saved, but he was not understand what the man witness the gospel, because he witness too fast, he just simple said, yes and believe on Jesus then baptized. But he was not truly saved at the first place.
Then years later, he finally got saved. He listen from his best friend witness the gospel to him, it took more time for him to understand the gospel more clear. Then, he got saved after understand the gospel.
I fear that First Baptist Church of Hammond mislead thousands, and thousands of souls go to hell because of 123 Easy Believism.
That church claimed there was 15,000 souls saved uring single Sunday morning(Pentacost Day). Was that actually 100% of 15,000 people being saved? I doubt. Only God knows them.
Notice, Jesus' ministry, and Paul's ministry in the Bible. Both were never recorded how many souls they led in their ministry. Why? Because they were humble with the right attitude.
Is Hyles better than Paul's ministry?
We better be careful with out attitude toward people and also God too. We just witness the gospel to people, no matter how many people we witness to them. I rather to surprise when face in the judgement day shall reveal tell how many souls I led them to Christ, than putting record in the book.
Sorry about this long post.

p.s. please be patience with Ben Hall, give him more time. -
As I have stated before today, I disagreed with Jack Hyles on just about every subject. I thought his militant fundamentalism was the epitome of legalism. However, he did preach on salvation every single time he was in our church. Although I thought he was entirely too radical for me, I would not categorize him as a heretic, just wildly overzealous.
Does he have things in his life for which he must answer? Of course he does.
"And while they continued asking him, hee lift himselfe vp, and sayde vnto them, Let him
that is among you without sinne, cast the first stone at her. John 8:7[from the 1599 Geneva Bible]
-
Often, I listen Dr. Hyles preaching in the service. He preached on testimonies on his own ministry at church, his travles, at his conferences, etc... boast on his own success, he thinks he is better than them. That is his pride. I clear can easily see him pride.
I am not interesting in the numbers of how many souls saved, how many baptized a year. He likes to posted the records how many souls saved and how many baptized a year. Seems to me he being boast about his own church, shows that he was pride.
Pride is a sin. Period.

No, Paul's tesimony is better than Jack because Paul's ministry is worth than Jack Hyles.
Jack preached, "I..."
Jack preached, "I..."
EGO!!!!
Forget him! -
Askjo, I am surprised by your comments about Jack Hyles. He was a staunch KJV-onlyist.
As I said before, I disagreed with Jack Hyles on many issues; however, I never heard him deliver anything other than the Gospel.
Homebound had a legitimate request, and has yet to be answered. -
He changed his tune when "onlies" wouldn't send kids to his school and about 1981 changed to a rabid KJVO (kind that if you were saved reading any other version, you were'nt really saved!)
His Gospel, too, was a sham and false message. To those of us who KNOW the true Gospel, he used the language so he seemed orthodox. But his no-repentance, easy believism was worse than ANYTHING at a Graham crusade.
There are thousands of people who got "saved" under his (and his ilk) methods who are as lost as the day is long, deceived, and will die and go to hell.
Jack did more to damage fundamental Christianity than anyone I can think of. Anyone. -
As I said previously, I heard him preach several times in my church, and he preached the gospel. Of course this was in the early '80's, and his message may have changed; however, he did indeed preach it in our church.
Hope this post finds you well, and ready to preach tomorrow!!
