In an attempt to prove waterboarding is not torture, radio personality Mancow did what Sean Hannity chickened out of. He was waterboarded on the air. So how did it go? He lasted all of 6-7 seconds, and admitted that the practice is indeed torture.

Mythbusters lasted longer at it :) They have a modified version which looked more torturous, if they torture terrorist and save lives of Americans than torture good I say
Now to say this does not mean everyone in ever situiation is to take a very liberal interpretation of these commands ... and this is at best, or to be very un-Christian at worst.
Jesus never said in any of his teachings or commands that mistreatment of others was and is permissible.
Every bit of that was taught when there was no war on.
The nation was already occupied by the enemy.
Living with the enemy is a lot different strategy than stopping the enemy before he wins and occupies the land.
The war against terrorist is fought with strategies different than regular war.
Besides.... Jesus, in context, came to the Jews to show them his Father and preach/teach the gospel of the kingdom.
He came at a time when there was some civil unrest with their leaders .....working against the occupation of Rome......
and it was essential that his followers and his message stood distinctive in separation from theirs.
He never said murdering a baby was permissible either, but you approve of that and the murder who has increased those murders.
Show me where He says murdering a baby is permissible. You have no mercy on the unborn who are enemies of no one, yet here, terrorists and you argue for mercy, which in the end allows them to continue to murder
americans. What about the americans you've approved of their innocent murders with your vote for the murderer?
No. You are wrong. You are taking verses out of context, and twisting them to fit your agenda. The bible tells us there is a time to kill. Jesus told his disciples to carry swords.
You should answer the question so we can all understand you. Is every war wrong ?
This whole thread is based on a false comparison. The question is did Our Lord mean to apply the statement quoted to governmental actions. I think not.
However, I'm not advocating "harsh interogation" techniques. Personally, I think they were conterproductive. But, I also think folks were stampeded by the way the 9-11 group seemingly appeared out of nowhere. People were not taking the long view of matters.
Agreed. Apples and oranges.
The fact that waterboarding is "torture" has not been established, either---whether or not it is torture is a matter of opinion.
Should one of Obama's daughters be held hostage, I bet he would do anything to find out where they are, including waterboarding.
It depends on whose ox is being gored.
You seem to be saying that since abortion is evil, which it is, and since we should not be aborting babies, which we shouldn't; this means that until abortion is outlawed, every other thing is permissible.
If I am wrong, comment on water-boarding without relating it to abortion.
Ah right there is where the misunderstanding is happening. You still think of our "enemies" as human beings. In order to be a good Christian/conservative/patriotic american today you'll have to stop thinking of them as humans and start thinking of them as the WW2 era Germans thought of the Jews, "unmenschlich" or non humans. That makes treating other human beings like "unmenschlich" alot easier on the ole national conscience.
