He had the choke applied for approximately 15 seconds about 9 of which were on the ground in which he then started crushing the guys head into the pavement. The damage was obviously done at that point. You can quibble all you want but the choke hold is the catalyst for his death. It's tough to say that the Grand Jury got it right when you don't even know what points the Grand Jury deliberated on.

All this aside, are you comfortable with the police handling situations like Garner's in that manner? Is that doing the perception of law enforcement any favors in this country? Are you totally fine with the police using banned tactics and skipping away scott free. Don't you think that it is a little strange they couldn't even coax a manslaughter indictment out of this. Or is it just, clean kill one more for the goodguys.

No, The damage was not done at that point. The choke hold was obviously of poor quality. I'm not going to count the seconds. If it had been a good hold, the guy would have been out in 7 seconds max. The fact that he is speaking and clearly no choke hold is being applied and hasn't been for several seconds clearly indicates he died of other causes. Positional asphyxiation is the most likely suspect.

The grand jury got it right. No murder charge of any kind was in order. All you armchair prosecutors can go back to watching whichever CSI you normally tune in to.

    This case is closed. :wavey:

Absolutely. The demeanor of the officers involved was calm but determined. All the guy had to do was submit to hand restraints. Look around. How many cops were there? Submit and it's over. He would be alive now and most likely released from custody if they had no case like he was saying.

There is no good time to resist arrest. It is best to submit and make your case under calmer circumstances.

One thing you guys are forgetting is that this guy had asthma. I have very mild asthma and a few weeks ago, two deer ran in front of the car we were driving in. Just the quick moment of panic caused my lungs to tighten and for me to start coughing. I wonder if the panic of all of this and the fight he had in him also contributed to him not being able to breathe due to it triggering his asthma. Add in the fact that the cops were sitting on him and I can see this happening.

All the more reason any sensible person would not create his own panic situation - unless his conscience just got a jolt from seeing the police.
Remember, the cop in Ferguson did not know at first that MB had robbed a store, which most likely (or at least very probably) caused his reaction to the officer.

Got news for ya. This one is NOT closed. There will be a federal indictment. this was a clear civil rights violation of a man who was doing nothing. He was breaking no law. He was not placed under arrest.

So it wasn't a skin condition that got him killed?

Pure stupid. Submit to restraints for what What law was he breaking that warranted him submitting to restraints? It's absolutely disgusting that you're blaming a man who wasn't breaking any laws and have the audacity to say "all he had to do was submit to restraints".

Pure foolishness and again why white, political conservatives don't have a clue when it comes to anyone but themselves.

I've seen it time and time again and have heard folks say it. When black people stand up to white police authority, white men overwhelmingly view that as a challenge to their authority and power as the majority.

Well now the world sees how we've been treating people. Cat's out the bag.

He'd be alive if he hadn't been choked for doing nothing. You please explain for us what he did that he should have been in custody.

Please show us some cases where police officers are walking up to middle class white men and accosting them in such a way on the street for doing nothing.

He wasn't placed under arrest. If he were arrested, what was the arrest for?

    Shallow Al isn't white.

And why would I have a problem with white or black people under my skin?

He had a number of health issues. One or more of them killed him. They were brought on by the physical exertion of resisting arrest and compounded by the position in which he was laying on the ground with his hands behind him.

He was not choked to death.

Was he selling illegal cigarettes on the day they killed him? If so, where were the cigarettes?

So what law was he breaking?
