I am pretty sure that oil shale requires mining - not drilling. And beside this Interior Department plan is far from being finalised.
What percentage of the US oil comes from oil shale? Will this proposal on shale oil really treble the price of petrol at the pump?
From article above
A more accurate title for the thread would be 'If finalised Interior Department plan would reduce the size of federal land set aside for shale oil development in three western states by 2/3.'
The title of this thread is incorrect. Nothing has been decided yet.
The extraction of oil from oil bearing shale is a very difficult process that has, up to this time, required mining - not drilling - the shale from the ground, grinding it up, heating it, etc. for a limited among of return. It requires enormous quantities of energy and water (not easily available in the Western United States) and produces all kinds of toxic waste which can easily infiltrate and poison the ground water, creating huge problems which are not easily solved.
There is a new method that shows some promise which involves heating the shale in the ground several thousand degrees and letting the oils seep out of the earth over the course of several years, but there are some inherent risks and I don't think the process has been tested on a very large scale. The oils that leach out could also affect the ground water supply, so quite a bit of experimentation and testing should be done before we can do it responsibly.
Why let facts get in the way of an opportunity to bash Obama.
LE has proven time and time again she does not care about the facts, she just wants to disrespect and run down the President.
Oh, you mean like you want to do to here. If you are going to complain about criticism of the Pres then in order to be consistent you need to apply the same logic to other posters. This post above does not do that. Neither does Rogers.
It's not true that I don't care about the facts.
Your president doesn't deserve my respect, since he called people that disagree with him, his enemies and that includes me.
The headline was copied from Drudge, I am not the author of the headline.
And next time there is a personal attack about anyone here, including me, it will be deleted.
Tread lightly.
Well, to answer your question, I don't know.
What I do know is that this present occupant of the WH wants to do away with fossil fuels and for us all to go green and has circumvented Congress by implementing Cap and Trade through his regulators.
I also know that the Keystone pipeline would have provided many, many jobs, but that was nixed by the present occupant of the WH.
I also know that the present occupant of the WH has declared war on coal.
But why do you care?
1 Timothy 2: 1-3
1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
I rarely deal with personal comments but am deeply offended at your attack on my character by even questioning why I would care. Your attack was public so I am forced to respond publicly. I care because I am an American citizen who loves his country even when elections don't go my way. I love her through thick and thin. I love her no matter who the people of that great land elect to higher office. My father fought for this land. My brothers, brothers-in-law, my son and son-in-law are serving. I was training for military service when I broke my neck and was forced, despite my pleas, out. Your question about why I care is rude and patently offensive.
The fact the title is a Drudge title does not detract from a misleading thread. There is plenty of evidence that the president is seeking alternative forms of energy and is not a friend of the oil industry, but that is not the topic to hand. The Keystone Pipeline is a whole different matter than the article posted.
Not opening as much federal land for the research and development of oil shale mining has nothing to do with oil drilling or gas prices going up to $10 a gallon. The thread is misleading at best. The president is actually opening up lands for a new sources of possible fossil fuel development and the thread title says 'Obama shuts down drilling out west.' Blaming Drudge for the title does not change that fact.
Facts are a very helpful, if sometimes inconvenient, part of debate.
FWIW, I haven't forgotten what he did and didn't do when the oil rig in the Gulf was destroyed. Shutting down our oil production while endorsing the activities of other nations. IMO, we'll never recover the lost potential he gave away, in order to further his POLITICAL "green" agenda.
Personal attacks show a weak position and often a small, closed mind. Such attacks should be immediately erased from the board regardless of who posted them.
A pretty smart fellow was quoted as often saying,
Everyone is entitled to the opinion, but not their own facts.
There is an extreme amount of dishonesty on the BB and a lot
of twisting of "facts" in attempting to justify an opinion.
The falsehood about oil was pretty well exposed in the campaign.
The desire to build the Keystone pipeline is not to keep prices down in the US, but to open a path for the oil to be exported to other countries. The Christian Science Monitor reported:
So the pipeline may end up causing prices to rise.
True, I should have deleted the TQ's attack on me, which started the attacks instead of facts.
And TQ, I am aware of 1 Timothy 2: 1-3, so you have no superior Biblical knowledge with which to justify your man.
But the verse says nothing about "respect."

Roger, you don't have a corner on having close relatives who have fought and died for America, such as my uncle who survived the Battle of the Bulge, wounded, hiding in a river breathing through a reed for hours, so the enemy would not find him and shoot him.
And several of my greats several times removed were generals in the Revolutionary War.
And I still have family members serving.
But that was the OLD America.
It grieves me to see how this Country has changed.
You would probably have to live here to see it first hand and appreciate those facts.
You, yourself, pointed out in another thread, you have lived in another country for 20 years and may (your word) "be naive."
And if I remember correctly, you admitted you didn't vote.
My asking why you care was not meant to be an attack, sorry if you took it that way.
It is an honest question.
This country has changed in 20 years.
Indeed, much has changed over here under this president.
Even here, when you move away from somewhere for even 10 years, sometimes even less, let alone 20 years, the old neighborhood has changed - sometimes for the good, sometimes for the worse - we can never go back.
I'm offended that you're offended at my question of why do you care about the war on coal.
I take that personally because many of my relatives throughout generations have made their livings working in the coal mines and it offends me that there is a war on coal by one man and it becomes the law of the land, without even going through Congress.
Also, in your reply to the OP, I guess you missed the update I posted:
However, in doing so, the administration has closed off 1.6 million acres originally slated for shale development, reports the Hill, despite the president touting his record of expanding oil drilling on federal lands during the campaign.
I am not sure what you mean with your last statement. I live in the US when I am not working elsewhere. I vote in the ?US elections. I pay taxes in the US. So what is your point?
Removing the land is reported to:
Extracting resources from shale oil is not a simple process. It is nothing like drilling and pumping and it is a much more expensive process,
both ion the terms of money and in the impact on the environment.
There is serious concern about the long-term consequences of fracturing, or fracking. There are indications already being shown that is causing concern as to whether this should be continued to be allowed.
It is not a simple black and white decision as many seem to believe.
