Donald Kettl, political scientist and director of the Fox Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania, said, "Michelle Obama's speech reflected great nobility. She presented herself as a loving wife and mom, and she presented herself as being in sync with the values of most Americans."
"She surely would be a very different kind of first lady, but she took a lot of the air out of the elitist charges that the Republicans had been making," he added. "The big challenge remains whether Obama can reach middle- and working-class Americans, but Michelle Obama's speech significantly helped the cause."
The night ended with a warm moment when the Obama family was reunited briefly, albeit electronically. After the speech, Barack Obama appeared via satellite from the living room of the home of Jim and Alicia Girardeau in Kansas City, where he is campaigning, and greeted his wife and two daughters, the younger of which frequently interrupted his brief remarks of congratulations -- asking her father questions like "Daddy, What city are you in?"

You are easily impressed by the very ordinary.
I love my wife and my children. Does that qualify me to be president? -
I am just plain old fashioned impressed
America loves Family and they like sincereity they introduced themselves very well and showed a core value that agrees with America and I do think with John McCain there is a comparrison having to do with infidelity, eliteism, and being out of touch with homeowners.
One Spouse and One House Barack Obama
Multiple Spouses and Multiple Houses John McCain and if he takes on Romney,Katie bar the door
carpro if you are a citizen and not from some foreign land of course you can run for president you just need to make your case, Barack Obama did. -
Aren't you the one that was sooooooo impressed by Obama COMMERCIALS that you wanted to vote right then?
Please.
Grow up. -
Carpro you are a piece of work
You need to grow up and be a man and say who you are for instead of who you are against.
support your candidate , I have not seen one post by you that supports your candidate. -

The scripted choreographed speeches don't mean too much to me.
The spontaneous moments tell me more about the person.
And those previous moments leave me feeling that she is pretty angry and not all that in love with America. -
Why doesn't he say who he is for?
Why doesn't he say who he is for?
My goodness this is a campaign and Barack Obama must introduce his message and family too the nation, duh!
It is as if they do not want one positive thing to told about Obama and what happened with Michelle and the kids last night was priceless and moving. I think
it helped more Americans feel comfortable with this Family.
I will try and find the YouTube video with the kids and father bantering back and forth.
Carpo you are welcome to start your own thread on McCain and his family if you like or even your Wife running for President. hahahahahahahahaha
she probably could actually have a conversation with someone instead of short little quips and is probably liberal because opposites attract.hahahahahaha
I would luv to hear her family story how you never carry out the garbage and you are always on the BaptistBoard hahahahahahahahahaha:thumbs: -
Comfortable with his family?
I would rather be comfortable with his policy plans.
But we don't know what those are beyond the words "change", "hope" and "future".
Obama is going to have to start putting out a few specifics about policy or all the family photo ops in the world won't get him elected. -

They really should do something about curb appeal, though, the bushes in front need trimmed. -
???Are you saying the exchange between the children and father were scripted???
???Are you saying the exchange between the children and father were scripted???
If you have not seen the YouTube video then I will get it for you later then you can reason that out again. I don't think that was scripted at all! as for speeches in front of millions of course you prepare, that is a given. -
It stars Lindsay Lohan, and she plays this adorable, sweet young woman that everyone falls in love with. But in real life Lindsay has substance abuse issues and even problems with the law, and is pretty much just out of control.
but she is adorable in the movie...why?
BECAUSE SHE IS ACTING.
Just like the Obamas.
BTW, there are not many young children that DONT love their fathers, no matter how low down and evil they are.
This performance was all fluff, no substance at all.

and I do not think if you look at the video Barack comes off evil and low down that is just pure nonsense and lashing out.
speaking of video I need to find it for all too see then make an opinion. -
Dont be silly, the children werent acting....they were just doing what they were told. And of course Obama doesnt act evil in that clip,,,,,,thats why it was acting.
AJ -
But you said it was like a Lindsay Lohan movie???
"but she is adorable in the movie...why?

okay for the record those on the stage Michelle Obama the two daughters, Barack in Kansas City, did you mean to say that Barack was acting in his response to his children ??? now that is just plain bizarre. -
Furthermore, I am quite sure that the kids were doing what they were told. Most kids will lock up in front of a crowd that big unless they are well coached. Furthermore, what kind of dad is it that doesn't even tell his kids where he is? Obama ought to have those kids with him as much as possible. And he ought to be talking to them all the time particularly in an age of cell phones. If they really didn't know where he was that is very problemmatic. If they did know where he was and asked for the show, that is almost as problemmatic.
But let's not be wowed by these conventions. They are totally useless. -
Its all fluff

Honey on top of a cow patty does not change it into something else.
Step on it and the reality emerges.
No wonder this country is so fallen; when a video can sway emotions so completely and totally. -
You know, my friend's husband seemed like the perfect husband. He was very attentive to his wife and you could see just how much he doted on his children. His children adored him and came running to the door when he came home.
Then we found out that he was a twisted, sick, demented individual who had the most perverted life. All under the veneer of a wonderful husband and father.
You cannot judge the character of a person by what they show in public - especially so public as national TV in their campaign for the presidency. He might be the perfect husband and father. He might not be. But even being a perfect husband and father doesn't mean he'll make a perfect president. I'd say 98% of the children in the world adore their fathers and would act the same way as Obama's children did. His daughters are 9 and 7 - ages where daddy can do no wrong.
