Putin has at times been clever in the past but as you said, I’m talking about the hear and now. And right now this has been poorly planned and thought out. We weren’t trying to take over Iraq alone with crippling economic sanctions. In fact we had dozens of countries supporting us as a coalition. Not to say Russia won’t eventually win the combat aspect in terms of sheer numbers but at what cost? Putin is going to have a hard time finding any semblance of normalcy for Russia in a global world even if he militarily achieves his goal. I worry he has backed himself into a corner.

No, no, no, I don't want Putin to get desperate - this article is just downright alarming:

Furious Putin prepares to use 'father of all bombs' as brave Ukrainians hold up advance | Daily Mail Online

then, it could be just more drama, who is "they"?

Putin planned this for over six months, desired it all of his adult life. He could think annexing the Ukraine (lame term for invading and conquering) is worth any price, it's Russia against the world. I don't see how he couldn't foresee the logistic difficulties with this, there is a theory that is terminally ill with some form of cancer and thinks he's a Russian Abe Lincoln.

Short term damage to his economy is already horrific - closed down their stock market, more than double their interest rate overnight, and now the ruble is worth less than a penny. STILL fog of war, but it could be Putin is himself still stuck in 2014, with Merckel still calling all the shots in Europe. Maybe he did not see how the world has changed and never expected Germany to send 5000 anti-tank missiles to "his" Ukraine, even Finland and Norway are pitching in.

Good to see people agreeing that Trump is a lap dog. That's a good start.

Agree, the SOTU is coming up though, & we don’t want to be thinking about lockdowns, mandates, or deaths & needless suffering caused by Joe’s policies, like this:Tragic: 5-Year-Old Kid Suffers Vaginal Hemorrhage 10 Days After Receiving Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine, so turn all that despair towards Russia, always worked before, it’s the dem go to.

The White House, & ever popular Joe, is ready for the SOTU.

Yeah right, guess the subject of Putin being smart was just a coincidence that you and the MSM happen to be harping about the same talking points.
Trump defends praise of Putin even as he calls Ukrainian President 'brave' | CNN Politics
Trump again praised 'smart' Putin amid Ukraine invasion and said the US had become a 'stupid country'
Trump again calls Putin 'smart' in CPAC speech, hints at 2024 presidential run
Trump calls Putin smart, Zelenskyy brave, US leaders dumb at CPAC

He was smart in the way Biden has been played with oil for example. We depend on Russia right now and the sanctions we are slapping on Russia will ultimately hurt the US.

How in the world is that some sort of rebut to what I said. We’ve been somewhat dependent on Russian oil for several different presidencies. And how could that possibly be worth what he is doing to his own country or how poorly they have performed to date? Or how he somehow masterminded a more United NATO or pushing his neighbors further into the waiting arms of the EU. That has got to be the dumbest strategy I’ve ever heard with the worst return on investment I’ve ever seen.

But okay, he’s masterminded Biden on oil while bankrupting his country and pitting the modern world against him and alienating his own populace. Genius!

I was literally responding to a poster in this thread not Trump. When Trump said that none of this had even began yet. I couldn’t care less what he thinks about Putin.

It was smart to wait till we were dependent on Russian oil. There's no denying that.

Ignorance, as he tried to open a second front but was betrayed. If, as history indicates, his plan had been actually implemented, the war would have ended in 1916, saving nearly 1 million lives!
