My goodness! Sherrie, I am shocked. I would never picture you as a speeding Grandma on the highway. :D

Hahahaha Barnabas! That Mammy! Speeding Mammy! I try to go slow....I really just can't. But I am a careful driver! Really I am!
Sherrie -
Wyoming is small in population (and traffic) and rural, like a town with every looooong streets. So folks with Wyoming licenses have been allowed to speed with impugnity.
75mph is the norm. If you are caught 75-80 it is $5 and 80-85 it is $10.
NON RESIDENTS (especial evil "greenies" from Colorado - the color of their plates) are given NO LEEWAY at all and $75-150 fines minimum.
Did I mention we don't pay taxes here? Thanks to speeders we have good highways and to all you midwesterners using our coal and oil we don't pay income tax either.
Yrrrr Welcome! -
i respect a brother in his bible study tending but what the...he drives so fast my ass lift from the seat he scared the heck out of me.

78 in a 60....
I think I can top that....
100kmh in 60 (62/37)
160 in 90 (100/56)
....and if I would have been caught doing any of the above I would now be walking everywhere at 4 and a bit kmh
I do behave most of the time. Only booked twice since started in taxi almost 10 years ago, and once before that
Part that does annoy is that the last time I was booked was for "not give way at give way sign". Wasn't too happy about that one, I reckon I had plenty of time, cop thought otherwise
*mutter*mumble*...
I better go find something else to type about, getting annoyed here ;)

A number of years ago I was clocked at 70 in a 35. That was, admittedly, bad.
If no one's familiar with Silver Spring, MD, well, 16th Street NW (DC) turns into plain old 16th Street in downtown Silver Spring, where I live. So, it's basically DC. And I deal with DC traffic every day. My commute is only 5 miles, and I take a "back" road that has a 35mph limit, but I don't think anyone drives at less than 45 mph. To go more slowly is to be a hazard. And on the Beltway? Puh-lease. Posted 55, but I don't know anyone who drives at such a slow speed as they go around! 65 or 70 is much more normal.
Off the interstate, I'm usually no more than 7 or 8 miles over the limit, but on the interstate, you can count on 10 to 15.

What?
What did he say? (titus that is) (teehee-hee)

Well...if I'm in a 70mph zone, I generally drive about 72 or 73. Of course, right now, they've bumped our speed limit down to 60  I can't stand it. I feel like I'm going SO SLOW. And then, on the road from my house, they've just put a new school. So I get to work 30 minutes early so that I"ll miss the school traffic. I don't go more than a few miles over the speed limit, because my dad caught me speeding once, and made me write an essay to get my keys back.  Safe to say, I didn't speed anymore (well, at least not when Daddy was following me...but in my defense, I didn't KNOW he was following me)

Pete ;) -
I know there are many who've exceeded posted limits by far greater than 18mph (30kph).
I'm just shocked to learn that SaggyWoman is a SPEEDER!!! I mean SHOCKED!!!!!
Not SaggyWoman, please say it ain't so.
Pete, I hope this clears up any confusion as to my intent.
Speeding is one thing, but c'mon, Saggy Woman a SPEEDER!

I hate this! We lefties are known for mixing up
our "lefts" and "rights," and when I hit the button
to send, I realized I said I stay to the left on the
freeway, rather than the right. I stay to the right,
because Ii am usually driving alone, so I usually
don't qualify for the carpool lane (far left).
Here's the thing: a year ago, I was in severe pain.
Why? Because while driving on the city streets,
two people ignored the law. On the night before
my graduation, someone presumed I would also
go through the yellow light, because the three
vehicles ahead of me went through the yellow,
so when I stopped, she slammed into me at 35
mph. Thank you. It meant sleepless nights
because of the pain, inability to go to work,
trips physical therapist in preparation for visits
with the chiropractor.
Making it worse, 10 days later, different street,
I stopped behind a white pickup at another
light on a Sunday morning. Tthe lady behind me
was more worried about her flower arangement
for her church, so when they tipped, she took her
eyes off the traffic long enough to slam me--
again!
Result: months of pain, not being able to baby-
sit, not being able to hold my grandson born just
before the accidents, not being able to hold my
grandson born just after the accidents very long,
missing my camping trip, and more.
Do I follow the laws? YOU BET! Speed limit,
full stops, and the rest. -
Brothers and sisters, we are not under law but grace. I love living in Central Florida. The average is probably 45. There are plenty of roads with 55 on them though. The interstate actually has 70 in places.
Also, I love those stop signs with the white outline. They are more like yield signs down here. -
PreachTheWord --
You may think you are not under the law, but
your speeding tickets and failure to yield tickets
certainly are. When Ii got hit the first time, and
the officer told me he was going to ticket the
other driver, if I had not been in so much pain,
I could have shouted, "Thank you for being under
the law! Ticket her with everything you can!"
Most of the believing speeders I know are actually
Arminian. It truly amazes me that there are so
many here who say they are Calvinist, yet they
are fine with speeding. Now, an Arminian can
get by with speeding, because they cannot sin,
so they don't have to worry about it. But you
Calvinists--what do you do? Speed, ask for
forgiveness, then go out and repeat the process
the next day?
Do you take Titus 3:1 seriously, or was it put
there for comic relief?

Brothers and sisters, we are not under law but grace.
YOU may not be under the law, but YOUR actions are. -
It was a joke everyone.
Out like my nonfunny take. -
Oh but SaggyWoman, now I sing a whole different tune. Yep you guessed it, one blew out and I am still alive to tell you that what you are doing is VERY, VERY dangerous. Besides the very loud KABOOM that nearly scared me to death, the portion of tire that blew off that trailer went straight up into the air and it was coming right at my windshield. Without a glance or time for a second thought I swerved into the lane on my right to miss that thing hitting my windshield. I was on an Interstate running 70 mph and did not have a clue if there was a car already in that lane. There was no time to look around. I just knew I had to get out of the way of that tire. I truly believe if that big chunk of tire had hit me, it would have most likely knocked my windshield in and hit me right in the face.
Even though I reacted as quickly as I could some smaller peices of it hit my hood and the top of my car. Scratches are still there just as a reminder to me. From the scratches my husband said it was most likely a steal belted tire. The Lord was watching over me that day and I am very thankful I did not kill anyone in that other lane. There could have been a car full of unsaved people in that lane. What a nightmare that would be, and all because I did not listen to someone who knew and tried to tell me. :(
SaggyWoman it may never happen to you, but my dear, please know that it "can" happen, and your time to respond "correctly" is about zero.
A question to those of you who speed. Do you pray for travel mercies asking the Lord to bless your trip as you speeding down the road? :D
~~GloryBound -
Good question, Glorybound. I love the bumper
snicker which says, "Never drive faster than your
guardian angel can fly." -
The mere act of speeding does not induce me tp pray, no. I recognize that I am showing a disregard for the law, but do not believe that I am a reckless driver. I drive defensively, even if I'm above the speed limit.
That time I got the ticket for 70 in a 35, they gave me a careless and reckless charge, simply because I was 35 over the limit, but the charge was dropped. I pleaded not guity to that charge (but no contest to the speeding), and told the attorney why I thought it was unwarranted. He agreed.
Anyway, some people might like to say that speeding is inherently reckless, but I disagree. Speeding is inherently breaking the law, and some reckless drivers are speeders, but not all speeders are reckless.
Just a thought. -
Kelly --
Most 35 mph limits are in residential zones,
zones occupied by people, zones with slow-
moving vehicles, areas with low visibility,
curves, blind intersections, etc. How could it
be that you were not reckless? Limits are not
just set at someone's whim; they are there for a
reason. -
I don't want to start a discussion of my personal speeding issue here, so I've sent you a PM, Abiyah.
