Ted Cruz just lost a bunch of support by that move. He has shown to not be a man of principles and that he would bow the knee with enough pressure on him.
He finally because a man of principles and Christian conviction and kept his word. Good for him. To continue to refuse to honor his commitment would have been the end of his political career, and rightly so.
The question is why did he endorse Trump -
was it
1)
he truly had a change of mind
2)
he wanted to keep his word
3)
he wants to run in 2020? ( and he would only run in 2020 if Trump looses)
A man of principles and conviction would continue to honor his wife and father dispite political pressure from the likes of Priebus. He caved pure and simple and his base is upset by that fact. We liked him because he was the only one that seemed to have enough principles to stand up the the establishment, but that idea was destroyed today. He may have caved to pressure but from what I have seen on Facebook his base is still #NEVERTRUMP.
My guess is number 3 since Priebus was making it clear how rigged the GOP will be in 2020. It was disappointing to say the least to see him cave under the pressure. Unfortunately for him I don't think it will matter, the GOPe will always hate Cruz and will do everything they can to rigg the primary against him and the conservative movement. They made that clear at the convention that conservatives had no place in the party.
If supporting the Constitution and voting your conscience was what "Washington insider's" do than we would have a whole other problem on our hands, but since it's not I'm going to respectfully disagree with your statement of calling Cruz prior to today a "Washington insider."
#NEVERTRUMP
I would rather see someone stand up to pressure to defend their wife and father than play politics, but I'm weird like that.
One thing this election has shown is how high loyalty to the Republican party ranks with some people.
Funny that before Trump was the nominee some of the people most adamant about party loyalty now were ready to burn the GOP to the ground if Trump did not win the nomination.
Blessed Wife -
This is totally off OP -
But your singnature line is WAY TOO LONG
You many only have a short post - but it takes way too long to scroll past your signature lines.
and now back to the argument - I mean discussion in question.
Trump is beginning to put good solid Republicans around him and those who were once bamboozled into getting on board with the #NeverTrump movement are fading fast into, “If you can live with a Clinton presidency for 4 years, that’s your right, I can’t and will do what I can to prevent it.”, and turning toward #OKWhatTheHeckwasIThinking,GoDonald. Maybe you should start to consider following yer boy Cruz’s lead and find a new hashtag BW318.
There
was a time I thought Cruz was a possible candidate I might be able to support. No longer. I am sure he made his decision believing it will help him in the future. For me he is simply an opportunist and this decision moves him further away from serous consideration.
He should have never made the pledge to support the Republican nominee, although I'm sure he did not expect that the Republican Party would nominate someone like Trump.
He should have said it was wrong to have made such a pledge and not endorsed Trump. Trump will destroy the Republican Party in any case, so he wouldn't be losing anything to maintain his integrity.
You expect me to be unsubmissive to my husband, just because a politician caved to political pressure. What you don't understand is that it was never about Cruz the man, it was about the principles he used to stand for, and my principles have not changed even if his have. And one of those principles is that the Bible commands to husbands and wives is above politics, so unless my husband stops being #nevertrump, I will not stop either.
Again he didn't lie, unless one has to violate ones conscience to vote for Trump, but I have yet to see anyone actually admit that. Cruz did not become an insider until yesterday.
But you have made your priorities clear. As for I'll continue to submit to my husband as is my Biblical duty as a wife regardless of whatever insults you throw my way.
