Tater.....please post your recipes for mexican food on the DIET THREAD featured at the top in the Women's Forum. I would love to have them.

Had Cabbage Dump again last night (it has become a regular), but need some new ideas that don't take all day to prepare!

Congrats Betty and Ed!

My Mother flew in Wednesday.
She came to help my Daughter and the
new 1-month-old great-grandchild of hers.
We all went out with my son to eat
at Golden Corral. I was so proud of my
son. I looked to see what he got to
eat: some fish and some veggies.
Exactly something i could have eaten
in phase I of the South Beach Diet i'm on.
Oh yes, down to 192 last night!

Ah, a caffeteria - a meal with
no ULO (unidentified leafy object).

Be sure, on any regimen, not to eliminate all the GOOD fats/oils. That can do long-term damage to the body.

Remember Ewell Gibbon? He was spokesman for natural foods (and Grape Nuts, I think). He'd start out saying "Did you know that many parts of a pine tree are edible? . . . "

He died.

Think it was Dutch Elm disease.

 <groan>

Actually, Dr. B. - he just 'pined' away. [IMG]

Having steak, salad, and roastneers for supper. The only thing that has carbs, that amount to anything, is the corn.

(And Dr. B. knows ALL about corn!) [IMG]

Sue,

For variation, try using stew meat (the kind you buy in the grocery already cut up into pieces) or stir fry instead of ground beef. I always cut the stew pieces up really fine.

Try with some sausage mixed in, or with polish sausage.

Chopped chicken works well, but you'll have to add extra water. This is really good if you use salsa instead of just diced tomatoes.

Also, try making it with a different veggie than cabage. Broccoli works well, as do green beans (green beans and tomatoes are awesome together!).

Just some FOOD for thought.

In Christ,
Trotter

Might know all about corn, but let's not talk about my feet right now.

What I DON'T know is what a "roastneer" is? Is that some more Midwestern dialect?

A roastneer is corn on the cob. (corn cooked on the cob)

'Roast an ear' became 'roastneer'...

How is everyone doing?

Even with all the company and eating out some, we stayed on our diet except for one tiny slip... or should I say piece of pie. Ed is staying the same and I have lost one more pound.

I know that a pound or two a week is good, but it is so slow.

Our granddaughter said that it seemed that all we talked about was food and that is so very boring! It seems that when one is trying to lose weight and food does become more important than we are not trying to lose weight. Do you all find that true?

I've been bad the last three months - gained about 16 pounds!

To think - I made it through the Christmas holidays - and didn't gain - then I fell off the wagon - and that hurts!

Funny thing is - the blood sugar levels have been very good - but the cholesterol level went up 20+ points - but it is still pretty good!

I have been using my George Foreman grill to cook turkey breast, chicken breast, and salmon. Cooks fast and the food is very tasty! Keeps the kitchen cool also.

Tonight we had green salad topped with salmon!

What do you plan to have to eat for your Memorial Day Dinner?

I use my George Foreman grill instead of my indoor smokeless grill anymore. It DOES keep the kitchen cooler!

I got mine FREE for participating in on line surveys and polls!

Just the two of us (and storms) tomorrow. Think I might try one of those new low carb subs at Subway for lunch. Hubby likes the regular subs.

What's for dinner this Memorial Day?

We are not having company so it will just be the two of us. Haven't planned anything yet.

Donna that sounds so good. We have just completed a meal of turkey breast, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cheese, tomatoes, green peppers and onions, and grill shrimp.

Husband likes Macaroni and tomatoes, etc. So I substituted cauliflower for the macaroni and it is delicious!

would you believe, it is 1:35 in the morning, and this is the first time I even thought about today (yesterday) being a holiday. Goodness. We ate at our favorite Mexican place today - I had a taco salad w/out the shell. Then we tood food to a friend who had a baby and kept her toddler for a few hours. It was crazy. Then we ate at church - its revival time and the church ladies feed the preachers and their families. I ate some greens, melon, and some chicken. mmmmm. Tomorrow night at church we are having gumbo. Someone is making me some withour "real" flour in the roux. I think they are using the Atkins stuff. I am really excited!!

It's a plan for eating healthy. I don't have a weight problem, I just want to start eating better. Maybe exercise more.

Ted Broer has been on several programs and he has many years of experience with nutrition. He is a Christian and refers to God's Word when he teaches about healthy eating.

BTW, I wanted to apologize to you, Sue, for agitating you over in the debate about hair length and also the horoscope thing. I appreciate you as my sister in the Lord and pray God's blessing in your life. I hope to patch things up with folks I may have offended. If I have done so, I ask for forgiveness. [IMG]

No apology necessary Tom. A debate forum is just that - for debates. (I usually stay out of them)

I have been trying to eat healthy (and I DO need to lose weight) but am finding out I can't 'afford' to eat healthy unless I make everything from scratch!

I am kinda/sorta doing the low carb diet, but am cutting down on portions also and riding my bicycle for exercise (when it's not raining).

Blessings,
