THE DIET THREAD

Dr. Bob, I cannot tolerate the 'taste' of water! It actually sickens my stomach. I'll drink plenty of tea but not plain water!

I strongly believe in reduced caloric intake with unlimited vegetables. I've honestly thought about writing a diet book for people who hate to diet!

I an on a 'forced' diet which consists of ice chips.

I have a first for me, a canker sore on my tongue!

FYI: Canker sores are not to be confused with cold sores (caused by the Herpes virus).

Fixed goodies for today and can't eat them! :(

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Canker sores often develop were there is irritation in the mouth - lots get them on the soft tissue on the cheek where the teeth rub slightly against it while chewing.

Yours is on the tongue. Hmmmm.

Ah Sue! I've had 2 on my tongue in the last few months. One was where I had bit the side of my tongue and it was larger and VERY sore. The other was on the very tip of my tongue and I think I caused it by rubbing my tongue against a tooth that has a temp. filling and is quite rough.

I know your pain! I finally told my boys that they could not ask me questions and I was not going to talk.... because every time I spoke, the side one rubbed against my teeth. Ouch!

I used Vit. C (sucked on them) and sprayed with Cepastat. Other than that... time.

Poor kid! I'll pray for that too!

I interrupt the purpose of this thread to say I tried Trotter's "Cabbage Dump" recipe he posted. It was GREAT, and extremely easy to make!! I love cabbage and am always looking for different ways to fix it, other than the well-known coleslaw!!

In fact, it was SO good, I am fixing it again today...I am experimenting with different kinds of diced tomatoes (which I love also). This time I am using diced tomatoes with mushrooms and garlic. I added minced onions, and it is almost done...smells wonderful!!!

I will say, however, that if he uses a whole head of cabbage, he must have a HUGE skillet!! I used half a head, and my skillet is VERY full until the cabbage cooks down some!!

Thanks, Trotter!

Not me. I stuck with it. Lost another 6 pounds, for a total of 23.

CJ, I've got a bunch of great cabbage recipes I've been cooking for low carb. I'll get them together and post them here in a few minutes.

Uh, that would be me. Thanksgiving and CHristmas meals are such carbfests!!! I put on 4lbs. But, thanks to faithfully resuming my workout schedule at my local fitness center, I've already lost 3 of them

Garlic Chicken and Cabbage
Ingredients:
1- whole chicken 1/2-to 1- whole red or white onion chopped 3-8- garlic cloves or use garlic salt/powder to you liking salt and pepper to taste. Season chicken and place in crockpot. Add onion and garlice cloves and salt and pepper. Fill crockpot 1/4-way with water, cover and cook on high 6-8 hours. The chicken should fall off of the bone. During the last hour of cooking the chicken, cut up 1 head of green cabbage...I use red also...core removed. Place in a large pot of pan with a shallow amount of water...1/2-to 1-cup. Add two tablespoons of butter or margarine and sprinkle liberally with garlic salt and pepper. Cover and cook on med-high heat for 20-30 minutes. Once chicken and cabbage are done, place some cabbage in a bowl and top with chicken and some of the chicken broth. Talk about yummy. You can alter any of the seasonings and the butter or margarine to your satisfaction.

Dressed Cabbage (Irish
Ingredients:
Dressed Cabbage (Irish) Cabbage 4 T Butter 3 T Bacon stock or water 1 pinch Nutmeg or mace 1/2 t Flour Pepper Shred the cabbage. Melt half the butter in a heavy pot; then add the cabbage and toss until covered with the butter. Add bacon stock or water, cover and cook gently for about 20 minutes. By this time the liquid should be nearly absorbed, and the cabbage cooked. Add the nutmeg or mace, the flour, and stir well; then add the rest of the butter and toss until melted into the cabbage. Add pepper if needed. by VegasMom

Kenyan Curried Cabbage

Add shredded cabbage and continually toss for several minutes to partially cook. Sprinkle curry powder and white pepper over the cabbage and mix well. Pour in heavy cream and allow 1-2 minutes for it to reduce. Add salt and stir in shredded carrots and continue cooking until the carrots are heated through. Do not overcook. Everyone should post their favorite recipes they've been using for dieting. That would be fun.

I already posted a lot of low carb recipes in the Women's Forum Recipe thread.

Shall I start a "Diet Recipes Only" thread there and copy and paste all the "diet" recipes from the other two recipe threads to that one?

Since most of us are on some kind of a diet, I could unfeature the other one and feature the Diet Thread.

Let me know...

Great idea, Sue! Although I am not necessarily on a strict diet, I like to cook and eat "healthy". Some of the recipes on the recipe thread don't seem to fit either category, although they are wonderful recipes!!

Would you have to "unfeature" the recipe thread? Couldn't you feature both threads...a regular recipe thread, and a diet/healthy thread?

Just my 2 cents!!

Done! I have copied all the diet recipes that I could find in the various threads.

There is now a thread in the Baptist Women's Forum titled "Diet Recipes Only". It is to be used for low carb, low fat, sugar free, low cholesterol, diabetic or any other kinds of 'diet' recipes and links to diet recipe sites.

Men are welcome to post their recipes there as well as women.

Well, I have joined the club. I am doing low carb - been on it 9 days and have lost 7 pounds so far. Its really not that hard. I think I am going a little heavier on veggies than I should for Induction, but I just dont like alot of meat. (like slabs - they really gross me out!)But I am doing chicken salad, sandwich meat with cheese rolled up and microwaved, grilled chicken salads, fish, and I keep a bowl of vegetable soup (the Weight Watcher one) in the fridge. Oh and jello, too. I have found that I really am not as hungry as I used the "think" I was.
But, I am having a problem with insomnia. Could this be a metabolic thing??

It probably is Tater. Anytime we change our diet, or habits, our bodies take awhile to adjust.

Has anyone ever tried CarbOut255 pills or any other type of OTC 'carb blockers'? I am wondering how safe they are. They claim to block up to 255 carbs of something high-carb that you eat.

I know if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is; but has anyone tried them?

Hey! I'm joinin' yuh! I got a healthclub membership and am going for the first time today. As soon as I signed up, I started cutting back -- cut out the 7-Up and started eating better.

My big problem is that I do not eat often enough. Sometimes, I don't eat until after 3 p.m., and that is such a no-no! So Monday, I did better in that department but not well. Today, I improved on that. But I am not eating enough fruit and vegies.

I made a color-coded chart. The top line is my goal for the day, the next section contains lines for me to write down what I eat for lunch and morning snack, next lunch and snack, and next supper. After that, I have a section for fats and sugars, then one for drinks, then one for exercise.

I am not writing down the numbers of calories -- just the foods. Portion sizes I am using for my largest meal of the day are these: (the size of) 1 fist = 1 vegie; 2 fists = 1 salad, and 1 palm = 1 meat.

My main problem is drinking enough.

We'll see how it goes!

My husband and I went to the health club yesterday, just to check out the facilities and get the membership cards. We both need it, because as he has risen in seniority, his job has become more sedentary, and I cannot seem to build back up from the accidents. (They are lucky I am not making a claim for this, but I am not sure it would be completely right, since I may have joined anyway for weight loss and muscle toning.) My daughter joined also, so I will go with her sometimes and with my husband other times.

Anyway, I like it. The people are not the muscle-bound-grunting-show-offs, fashion-show-types, or looky-loos; they are common, ordinary folks.

I ate a muffin last night, though. Guilt trip. I need to go buy groceries this morning so that there are the right foods to eat around here.

My daughter and I went for our first session with a trainer today. Can you say, "Bait and switch?" Come on! I know you can! "Bait-and-switch!"

I had to laugh at the guy who did it. I know it was his job to try to sell us his services beyond what we agreed to, but he tried to make it sound like we would surely fail without him. WHA????? I just smiled and said, "No, I'm doing this, but I'll do it my way."

Ogimmeabreak!
