THE DIET THREAD

Hello everyone!!
Its nice to see so many others struggling with weight loss, well not the struggle but to know your not alone.:)lol I started weight watchers after my 5th child was born. He was born in October and the first week of January I started. I dont go to the actual meetings but I got the books and point charts and such off of ebay.
Ive lost 16lbs and seem to be at a standstill. I love that its a lifestyle change though and not a "diet". Im not overly heavy I guess but much heavier than when I first got married (130) now after 5 children Im 159. BUT I was 175 before I got pregnant and thats where I landed after he was born.
My goal is 19 more lbs but for the last two weeks I have seen no weight loss....**sigh** Im careful what I pray for though..lol When I was pregnant I prayed that the Lord would not let me gain too much. And what a Praise because I didnt...lol BUT I was throwing up more than I ever have before in my life.lol So now Im careful when I pray for the Lord to help me lose weight and ask HIM to help me but not to be sick to get there.

For those that are doing the Atkins diet? Is it more time consuming to fix meals?

Liz,

No, it doesn't take any more time. Actually, it takes less for us. Now, we usually make just a main dish (we normally make it a one dish meal). Besides, it will always take the same amount of time to cook a roast (unless you have Townecraft cookware, like us), so why try to hurry it?

I, too, find that the prep time is about the same. I am just making different choices of foods to cook. Tonight we had a turkey roast, green beans, caulifower with cheese, and cabbage.
Best wishes in your journey!

Well thats good to know that it takes the same amount of time to cook with atkins. I find that with WW its just mainly about the amount you eat. Makes ya eat healthier.
Love those green beans....those are free with WW.:)lol
Sue, pork rinds...thats a great idea. I love bread but thats high in points, well unless you do some healthy brand. And my husband loves breaded chicken etc and Ive used corn flakes before. I think I might have to try that.

I'm off my diet until the end of March. Birthday, big trip back East and decided a super low-fat diet just would not work right now.

I will return to it with a vengeance on April Fool's Day.

(Don't go there. To easy.)

I am still doing the 'hit and miss' method and not doing well at all. I haven't weighed for a while, but I can tell by my clothes that I'm not losing...

Hopefully I will be able to get back in the swing of things when the weather gets nice so I can work outside, ride my bicycle etc.

Keep up the good work Tater!

We didn't weigh this week...way too much non-Atkins food coming through. I've gotta get back on serious. It is amazing how, when you go off of a diet, it is so hard to get back your momentum.

As for recipes, try this site: (Hey, Sue, check this one out for sure!)
Atkins Diet Bulletin Board

Even though it is for Atkins, many of the recipes posted would work for low-fat as well.

I am a diabetic, and I really, REALLY need to lose some weight. I tried the Atkins in January, and lost 5 pounds in a week. I felt really good, and my sugar levels came down. Then I ran out of money to get Atkins friendly stuff (like all the cheeses, and lots of fresh veggies and eggs.) I went back on it a month later, but it didn't work quite as well. I have a 'medical condition' I have to get checked out before I can start back on Atkins (I am a member of the Atkins Bulletin Board, too)But, for now, I am just going to cut back, and eat just what a diabetic is supposed to eat!

WOW Tater! That is GREAT! I'm proud of you!

I got some very welcoming messages after I introduced myself over there.

You and Trotter will have to PM me your user names there so I will know who I'm talking to!

Well, I got my test results back, and everything was normal. Only thing is, I can't really afford to go 'full Atkins', so I'll have to modify it a bit. I have the same user name there as here, but I haven't been there in a while. I did lose weight on that diet, and my blood sugar came down. I am really struggling where that is concerned.

Fructose Sweetener Linked to Obesity Rise

Thu Mar 25,11:38 AM ET
By STEVE HARTSOE, Associated Press Writer

RALEIGH, N.C. - Researchers say they've found more evidence of a link between a rapid rise in obesity and a corn product used to sweeten soft drinks and food since the 1970s.

The researchers examined consumption records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (news - web sites) for 1967-2000 and combined it with previous research and their own analyses.
