Years ago a friend of mine who was the organist played the three blind mice slowly during the offering and only one person noitced.

Nah, no flag wavin where I come from but have a lot of hip swingin, thigh slappin swallow the mic folks here.
Then there was the two hundred fifty pound female choir leader leading that fast song - that is a sight I'd rather forget.
There's also Holy, Holy, Holy to rock music, but then I'm just old fashioned :-( -
Matt,
Amen and again Amen!
I only experienced this peculiarity for the first time a couple of years ago when visiting another church. it was bizarre and I for one don't want to see too much of it. Sounds like I need to be very grateful no-one from our church went to Spring Harvest this year!
Mind you, I don't much fancy your heavy rock either.

It is the congregations way of agreeing, appreciating, and praising. -

Liz, that's the whole point - I know 'my thing' is hardly anyone else's cup of tea and hence don't try to pretend otherwise
I think the practice of clapping after a song is supposed to be an offering of praise to the Lord; it also happends form time to time at our church but it appears to be to be more of a form of self-aggrandisement for the worship band - or am I just being very cynical?
Yours in Christ
Matt -
I absolutely abhor the practice of clapping for the band/offeratory. Our old church used to have a rocking P/W band and one person in particular was very talented. He would jam with his own solos and then everyone would applaud. I dreaded that. It made me ill turning worship into a concert.

Wave that Good 'ol Red, White, and Blue!! Old Glory!! The USA ain't quite what she used to be, but God ordained this country and there is still hope for Her!!!
One from each of the Godhead to you!!! -
AMEN!!!
From me! </font>[/QUOTE]Yes, I am not surprised. When some one gives up hope, they usually do turn their backs on the USA, but God hasn't, I won't!!! and anyone who calls themselves an American ISN'T unless they're willing to FIGHT for this country!!! -

The only times I've seen flag waving and expressive dance in worship, the folks who did this were nice enough to do so in the back or side corner of the sanctuary where there was plenty of space and little distraction for those who didn't share their appreciation for it.

When Jesus cames back I will gladly turn my back on the USofA and be headed for that heavenly city!!
Praise God!!
Now that makes be feel like shouting!
Don't worry Matt - no flag waving though ;) -
AMEN!!!

As much as I love the USA----I love the "Heavenly Country" more!!! Don't you??? I mean--even right now---let me ask---which country do you love more right now??? Which are you more fond of??? Which "becons" you to come and stay???? The USA or Jesus' Heavenly Country???? Brother---the answer ought to be a "gimmie!!"

Following 9/11 for a few years you'd get all that stars and stripes hoop-la that put the flag everywhere as if that made one bit of difference in our lives when they should have been hoisting up Jesus as the answer to OBL. I pointed out on line to many on more than one forum that I was NOT going to worship the American flag and plaster in all over my front yard, my vehicle, or my person.
But then that's not what this topic is about either. -
Matt, I have no idea what you are talking about! They wave flags in your church? What kind of flags? Is this a Baptist church?
Somebody enlighten me! I'm lost. -
Macia,
In a number of Charasmatic type meetings people wave coloured flags and streamers during the praise and worship, sometimes the flags of nations are hung around the wall of the church and people take them down and wave them as a show of support of missionary endevours in that nation.
I have seen that in maybe two churches here, so I am not sure how popular it is in the U.S? -
Thanks, Ben. Are Baptist churches in the UK charismatic?
-
As far as I am aware yes in the same way as in Australia that it is about 50/50 traditional worship as oppposed to charasmatic renewel type worship, yet the two styles seem able to co-exist peacefully enough, and all the Baptist churches in my state do try pretty hard to get along and work together despite the fact that some Baptist Union churches are openly Pentecostal and others very traditional.

There has been a liturgical dance at my church. I didn't care for it. It seems not to have caught on.
On the other hand, I was a member of a small choir that sang Vivaldi's Gloria during which dancers were on stage. I was in the orchestra pit and really didn't care what was happening on the stage; I was getting to sing the Gloria with a small orchestra. Wonderful experience.
If you want to see liturgical dance:
