Very well, I will take your word for it. I was merely stating that I did not know whether he was or wasn't.
So is Southeastern in the Wake Forest community. But Wake Forest is not very big. All the media is based in Raleigh and Durham. To me, the media and community are two different things.
Aren't you supposed to love your enemy? Why all the negative comments?
Same here. Of course, many of the Catholics in our community are not crazy about us. As for employers, that is the first thing we tell them, that we are seminary students. They love it! Got me a job immediately at UPS.
As well here. But I was referring to media coverage, not the community. Since when is the amount of media coverage the determining factor for significance of an event? Especially in matters of the church. By the way, Patterson was listed in the top 100 people who shaped North Carolina in the 90's ( click here).

Hmmm. A shame really. It seems that if ya'll were truly making a difference or mattered in your community, a change of this magnitude would never go unnoticed. It was only recently when the "rumour" that Dr. Godsey might retire from Mercer was going around it was in the papers, even talk radio.
Actually the change did get attention. There was a news crew here Sunday morning at 6:30 am. The seminary has been trying to see that every home in Wake Forest has heard of the saving grace of God. During the school year, one club goes door to door every Friday night. We did not say no one was paying attention, we said it isn't getting tons of attention. Besides, even though Dr. Patterson is the leader, and a great man, the teachers will still go on teaching the same solid biblical teaching after he leaves.
BB, it is unfortunate that some people attend seminary and have no place doing so. Those you have been exposed to make the whole school look bad. I would hope the employer would inform the school so the school could take their behavior under consideration. I know SEBTS has kicked students out for some of their activities. For example, you mentioned pornography, if Dr. Patterson finds out a student or employee is involved in it, they will be history. All of the school's computers have blocking software that prohibits the viewing of filth. I am surprised SWBTS doesn't have that as well. -
Baptist Believer,
Yeah, I know some of the bad eggs too. They did all kinds of heinous things and now assume positions in churches, SBC and CBF alike, and some even in "leadership" in both. Pathetic. :(
As for the seminary desperation, I took a $15 dollar an hour job---for $5 an hour. The employer was doing his part to keep us seminary boys humble and hungry, and was getting us ready for the church to do the same -

Here's my latest SWBTS prediction:
After Russell Moore gets his doctorate at Southern, Paige Patterson will ask him to become a theology professor at SWBTS. -
To our brother in TN and fellow SWBTS grad. I have been in Fort Worth for 20 years and news at SWBTS used to be front page news and on all local networks. The hiring of PP was VERY low-key in all the media. SBC wake up, the public is tired of the "mess" and your influence is waning!
-
Southern did that early in Mohler's tenure, and many of these turned out to be some of his most vocal critics. I'm sure there is no connection Well, I am sure Dr. Patterson is not afraid of being critisized by someone who was kicked out for pornography addiction. I know if I heard someone who was kicked out critisize him and act like they are on moral high ground, I will ask them why they were expelled. Dr. Patterson would only expell someone for a solid biblical reason.
KPBAB
for haveing a waning we sure seem to have more and more students attend the seminaries. More and more missionaries are entering the fields. We are not conserned with the spotlight, we can leave that garbage to the politicians. I know I would live a perfectly happy life if I never make the front page of a paper. Especially since most news is alwaysdepressing, i don't want to be in that catagory. -
-
Be careful!---applications to SBC seminaries are not on the increase and don't forget how many missionaries the IMB fired! Fewer and fewer young people have an interest in SBC causes...but maybe God just may use someone other than the SBC.
I just hope Fort Worth has a good Miliners (hat shop). Dorothy has arrived!!! -

I base my opinion on two things:
1.) The recent refusal to grant tenure to two excellent professors, Steve Stookey and Karen Bullock. They both signed the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message but that apparently wasn’t good enough. I know more about the situation, but I do not have permission to speak about it.
2.) Paige Patterson told the Raleigh News & Observer in a May 8th interview regarding his possible move to Fort Worth to take over Southwestern that “[c]ontrary to speculation about me, I'm more a man of peace than war. I don't like conflict. But things are not fully settled there (at Southwestern). Whoever goes there will have some confrontation to deal with." It is well known here that certain trustees wanted Ken Hemphill to do some “house cleaning” and were not satisfied with Hemphill’s accomplishments. These same trustees selected Patterson – without looking at any other possible candidate – to head the seminary. Given Patterson’s abrasive history here in Texas, it is hard not to believe that some sort of religious “cleansing” is not scheduled for the next calendar year. -
The brooms are ready......
Who will be left standing? -
I have a really good friend who is a DOM and "on board" with the SBC and I quote "Hiring Dr. Patterson is like throwing gasoline on the fire." So I guess not everyone thinks it is a good idea....not only those that are in diagreement with current SBC leadership.
Just for the record I couldn't agree with my friend more! -

It’s amazing how willfully giving into temptation makes a person stupid. -

It wasn’t like I came to seminary with any money in the bank! I had been pasturing full time for the previous two years for the princely sum of $35 per week (after travel expenses). -
Just wanted to add that, while I did not see it, I heard from many others that there was a news story about Patterson leaving yesterday on the six o'clock news.

BB,
The liberal students at Southern did the same kind of Jihad against conservatives like you speak of. I know conservative profs who had their offices ransacked, vandelized, etc., because they didn't tow the party line of liberalism.
So let's just say there are bad apples on any side, though I saw more from the left than I ever did the right. -
As to the original post, I say in my best Marv Albert's impression:
Yessss -
gotochurch,
I believe that quote was stated to the media. was it not? I believe it came from someone who had something personal against Dr. Patterson when they were both at Criswell, and that person resigned. Am I thinking of the right person? If not I apologize.
Anyways, although SEBTS is saddened to see Dr. Patterson leave, I know he will have a wonderful effect on SWBTS and I pray for all those employed and attending there.
