If you are thinking or moving to California, don't. Not only is the state as far left as a state can be, on the same day that a refiner has a fire, pump prices increase by no less than ten cents a gallon.
Right now ... are pump prices have went from the low two dollar range to three dollars or more (in three weeks), the prices continue to go up faster than they went down. I think the prices out here are built around the need for state tax revenue, as it doesn't make sense for low prices as the state loses money. IMHO ....
But I am interested in what you guys are paying? If you have seen increases too? And where you live? Also, I'd love your thoughts on why you think California has some of the highest prices in the lower 48?
Thanks for your input.
What are you paying for gas now?

I know some people near Boston who aren't paying anything for gas right now.
They've been snowed in for three weeks - :D -
This link should explain the reason for higher gas prices in California.

It's $2.38 in SE Pennsylvania thanks to our former Republican Governor's massive tax increase on gasoline.

If you don't live in Cali, count yourself lucky. -
I believe speculation plays a large role in gas prices. They're looking forward about a month or so, guessing (or speculating) as to the rate of supply and demand, general economic climate, political peace or unrest, etc.
All those factor into gas prices, and you pay today based on what they foresee coming.
And prices are already going up. Put that together with an immediate disruption and it's like a double whammy -
$1.779 a few weeks ago, $2.219 today.

We were the LAST state to hit the decline (our small population means we have reserves that stations must sell before getting new, cheaper gas). We will be one of the LAST to go back up.
We hit low of #$1.82 a month ago. $1.92 today. -
