Also funnny is that the Hebrew word for it in Joshua 24:26 is allah! In fact, the other words used are related to ti.

I was told of the "great translation" debate years ago. It was back in 1975-1976 when I 1st heard about it. I was sold on the idea at 1st. I read a few books and thought I knew it all. One time I even took a well known preacher aside to set him straight. This was at a young age of around 19. This great man of God showed much grace to me..and let me know there was more to it then what I thought. I went away unchanged, for I knew I was right. How could this guy not believe this? He just didn't know the facts. I got more books...and study as much as I could. This was where I went wrong. I started seeing the KJV only people misleading and not telling the truth...or not the full story.
I still didn't change right away. I still felt that the TR was much stronger then those old bad MSS. I thought what I really needed to do was learn some greek. I still do not knew greek that well, but I did study it for 2 years. This placed my case on the rocks. Half way though my studies in greek, I saw the anwser was not in the greek, so it must be in the history of the church. I read all I could on the history of the church. This made my case very weak indeed. It become clear to me that those writing the KJV only books were indeed lying or did not have a clue what they were talking about.
Now, it is not that I now set myself up as one that "KNOWS". As in all learning..the more you know, the more you know you know very little. I can not tell anyone the truth, for I do not know the truth when it comes to the proper greek. But this one thing I do know. Most all of these so called KJV books are filled with lie after lie. If there is a case to be made. why lie about it?
My seeking for the truth started with This in mind..."The KJV was the best, and I will prove it" 30 years later i'm here to tell you that I like the KJV but it is not the best. I carry the KJV Bible to church and read from it the most. Yet I study from the ESV and or the Greek-English Study Bible.
In the beginning of the debate it was over greek text. We now have a bunch of crack pots that worship a translation and have not a clue what they are talking about. The net is full of this stupid stuff, and at its best, will only crush a good church.
The NIV is a good "reading" Bible. Its really not made for study. There are to many word placements in the for me. Yet this thing about the NIV dropping the name of God is wogwash. The KJV dropped the LORDS name more times then the NIV.
anyway..i have said to much now. save your hate mail. I know how some feel about this, but they need to know just as i was told when i was very young..
"there is more to it, then what you have read in those books"

The Jerusalem Bible. The OT notes are particularly interesting.

Bill , do you have the New Jerusalem Bible also ? If so , how do they compare with one another ? I know these are Catholic Bibles , but I think we can still learn from them . There is a Roman Catholic scholar by the name of J.A.Fitzmyer . He wrote a commentary on the book of Romans that is excellent I hear . That is I have "heard" from James White and Robert Reymond . Apparently very little Roman Catholicism comes through -- he deals with texts rather honestly . Sorry , that I have gone off-topic with my excursion .

I'm KJV/NKJV. I read and study out of both.

Billy Graham was onced asked the question, "Which Bible Translation is the best?" He answered, "The one that you are reading."

unicorn? mythology?
what about Behemoth and Leviathan? are they mythology as well?
i didn't know there was mythology in the bible (KJV)
that's what I use. dont like NIV cause verses are taken out.
other ones are just watered down. i like the KJV cause it sounds so much more elegant and powerful.
how's this: "Do Not Kill."
compared to: "Thou Shalt Not Kill."
which is more powerful? -
such bunk -
My favorite Bible is the KJV1611 Edition. It has the original
translator footnotes which help me realise: the Translators
of the KJV had multiple Bible sources and didn't think a think wrong
with it.
Claudia: //Also after reading Gail Riplinger's book "New Age
Bible Translations" (at least I think thats what
its called) it forever turned me off from any
of these other Bible translations.//
Unfortunately, Gail Riplinger's books about Bible Translations
are NOT reliable sources of information. All information
contained in her books on the subject of Bible Translations
needs to be checked
elsewhere. The worse mistake (being higly deceptive)
I've found is in her book
IN AWE OF GOD'S WORD. There she says that 'I' is a bad
selfish letter (used for the 'I' word) and 'J' is a wonderful
letter which begins the name of our Blessed Lord and Savior "Jesus".
She acts likes she doesn't know (this is deception, if she
really doesn't know, she was being decepting writing her
book acting like a version guru) that in the REAL KJB, The King
James Version 1611 (KJV1611) Edition the name of our blessed
Lord and Savior appears as 'Iesus' (pronounced the same).

KJV 1611 -- if it was good enough for Paul - it is good enough for me!! What more needs to be said?

1 John 3:8B (KJV1611 Edition):
... for this purpose the Sonne of God was
manifested, that he might destroy
the works of the deuill. -
Now Ed - in quoting 1611 like that - the words of John (showing that 1611 was also good enough for John BTW) seem to show us just how much 1611 english appeared to be Greek to him so that he could so easily write in the 1611 style without hesitation!
