Why do people insist that rock music appeals to the flesh? Music appeals to my soul - from contemporary Christian, to rock, to classical. It all does the same thing to me.

"Rock music with Christian lyrics brings about a lack of reverence toward God and toward His name."

Again, Security Officer is making proclamations that he cannot back up Biblically. Rather he is sharing his opinion which he has the right to do. However, if you want to be taken seriously give us scripture to support your position. Give us legitimate evidence.

Everybody knows rock music causes improper capitalization.

Wikipedia has issues, but this is all correct. It is also sourced. You do not hear "Rock and Roll" as any modern music description except for old guys who don't know any better. :wavey:

He'll Take Care Of The Rest
    By Keith Green

You know it ain't no use, banging your head,
up against that cold stone wall,
Cause nobody's perfect, except for the Lord,
and even the best bound to fall,
Remember He is de vine, and you are de branch,
He'd love to get you through it if you'd give Him a chance,
    Just keep doing your best,
    And pray that it's blessed,
And Jesus takes care of the rest.
Yes the Lord said that He'd take care of the rest, He's gonna do it,
He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it,
He'll take care of the rest, the devil blew it,
He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the rest.
Just think about Moses, in front of the burning bush, barefoot on the Holy ground,
You know, he must have been thinking, what's an old dude like me,
Gonna tell em all when I go down, go down Moses,
The Lord said, hey Moe, don't you worry about going down south,
I'll be saying every word that comes out of your mouth,
Just keep doing your best, and pray that it's blessed,
Hey Moe, I'll take care of the rest.
Yes the Lord said that He'd take care of the rest, he's gonna do it,
He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it,
He'll take care of the rest, oh, Pharaoh blew it,
He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the rest.
Just believe, and you'll receive, that comfort you need,
You just think about all those lonely people you know,
They've got everything they want, but they have empty souls,
Well, He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the,
He'll take care of the, care of the rest.
You just think about Noah, toting his umbrella,
when there wasn't a cloud in the sky,
All his neighbors would laugh at his pet giraffe,
and would snicker as he walked by,
But the Lord said, hey Noah, keep cool, just keep building that boat,
It's just a matter of time till they see who's gonna float,
You just keep doing your best, and pray that it's blessed,
Hey Noah, I'll take care of the rest, I'm the weatherman.
The Lord said that he'll take care of the rest, He's gonna do it,
He'll take care of the rest, He'll see you through it,
He'll take care of the rest, his neighbors blew it,
He'll take care of the rest, He's gonna do it, He's gonna do it,
He'll take care of the rest, only Jesus can see you through it,
He'll take care of the rest, yes, yes, yes,
He'll take care of the, He'll take care of the rest….

There is a song that just gets my emotions all a-twitter. It affects my mood greatly. It changes my countenance. My posture is altered. I would have to say it touches my spirit. It stirs me and causes feelings I am uncomfortable with. It makes me think of myself in many ways. I have found my hands unknowingly raised to the sky while singing it swaying with the rhythm.

I think I should avoid this song in the future...

    1. O sacred Head, now wounded,
with grief and shame weighed down,
    now scornfully surrounded
    with thorns, thine only crown:
how pale thou art with anguish,
    with sore abuse and scorn!
    How does that visage languish
which once was bright as morn!

    2. What thou, my Lord, has suffered
    was all for sinners' gain;
    mine, mine was the transgression,
    but thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior!
    'Tis I deserve thy place;
look on me with thy favor,
    vouchsafe to me thy grace.

    3. What language shall I borrow
    to thank thee, dearest friend,
    for this thy dying sorrow,
    thy pity without end?
    O make me thine forever;
    and should I fainting be,
    Lord, let me never, never
    outlive my love for thee.

Replete with personal pronouns proclaiming (highlighted so they are easier to find), selfish as it were, to contemplate how I am touched by Calvary. What a shame since the first stanza is all about Jesus only to be dragged down by my selfish inclination to ask "what's in it for me?"

I had a pastor, back in the IFB days of my youth, who proclaimed that any song with a 2/4 beat was of the devil. He said it was the beat used in Africa by unsaved heathen and long-haired freaks. He proclaimed that all music with 2/4 beats robbed young Christians of their zeal for the things of the Lord. He proclaimed it was Biblical principles that outlined his disdain for the devil's music even though he could not produce a single verse to support his supposition. Too bad nobody warned Isaac Watts before he put the words of Joy to the World to Handel's music. Or Ask Me What Great Thing I Know or Count Your Blessings, Take My Life and Let It Be, Loyalty to Christ, Jesus Loves Me...

Now you are getting to the root of the problem...
This argument has been around for yrs that stems from racism.

That and the lie about the missionary that came back to America only to hear the "Black Jungle Music" playing in churches...

Some people can't handle the fact that their opinions are not equal to God's opinions..

It sounds like SO has real issues.. and if he is turned on by listening to Casting Crowns or music like that, then he will have to take that up with God...

But me being a Christian.. I HAVE NEVER gotten sexually aroused by listening to CCM.

    ONLY Perverts do!

(Well, I'll take you at your word on the aroused part. TMI!! )

The link I provided (singing about beautiful feet) is rock? Really? I always thought Metallica was rock. Would be interested in getting other opininons though. Maybe I'm off base. Gee, I guess it all gets back to personal opinions.

If hymns promote worship, sing them.

If rap promotes worship, rap them.

If southern gospel prometes worship, tolerate it.

    If CCM promotes worship, worship!

    Why complain?

Since we can't consider the lyrics, let me say, that this song just makes me want to gag. That's pretty horrible in my opinion, I'd much rather just listen to traditional hymns. This is why CCM is popular... stuff like this is a bunch of junk. You can't honestly expect younger people to voluntarily listen to this no matter how right with God they are.

Hey now! We do this in church and it's not bad (it's not my husband's worship team but one of the others - who do a bit different style than my husband's does). The words are solid and the music is pretty good. Definitely different though.

What a monumentally stupid post. "Musical style made one type "Lord" without a capital "L."

just to prove the point, i put in a southern gospel cd, and now i can't type capital letters.

Of course, polka makes me mispell werds.

    Techno music makes me st-st-st-utter.

And hip hop makes me get my tang tungled.

Dont'cha hate it when one's reasoning breaks down? :D

We keep coming back to the fact: the OP has no Scriptural basis for his position...yet he equates his position with "God's preference."

Yep. I'll tell ya what. I'll listen to the music I like, and God can listen to what he likes, and we are all happy!

It's not that bad, at least once it gets fired up. The beginning is pretty lame, all the tinkle-tinkle sounds and ambient keyboards sound all girly-man, and since Paul said that the "effiminate" are going to hell, I'll just stay away. The drums are way lame too, until the fill at 2:40 the drums don't play half the song and when it does play it's just one bass drum hit at the beginning of every measure on the verse, one bass drum hit on quarter notes, and a very occasional rimshot along with the bass drum. Even then, often times the bass drum is just accenting the sound from hitting the piano, which is louder, so it's often covered up.

That's not real drumming. That's like me admitting that I don't have a problem with keyboards... as long as I can't really hear them.

It's amazing how one song can be arranged really badly - and someone else can arrange it much better. :) I do agree that the arrangement is pretty lame. LOL

I suggest two tests for music:

Test 1--the lyrics. I've been given to understand that at least in my neck of the words (regional, not my town) some of what we think of as modern Christian music, Christian rock, and CCM is used in some Jewish worship and even some Muslims are using it, just not in the mosque. I suggest our music should be distinctly CHRISTIAN, not vaguely God worshipping, whatever the musical genre.

Test 2 --get a video of your favorite worship style and watch it. Turn the sound off. This is not about either the lyrics or the musical genre. In watching this video, do you see ANYTHING that looks like distinctly pagan worship? It happens. (Found out with folks on the rez one genre that does. Have a friend in another part of the world that found a genre or style that her pagan neighbors DID think were pagan worship.) This is not about being eurocentric. You are not looking for what looks like other cultures, but other WORSHIP.

If it fails either test, toss it whether it is your favorite song or not.
