Modeling Molinism
In an attempt to understand Molinism I've come up with the following. I am not trying to argue a point but rather trying to come to an understanding. So, please don't just disagree with it but instead correct the analogy, remold or reposition the model so I can observe it and understand it. Maybe both narratives I've made are models?

Charles Wesley's "Oh Horrible Decree"
What do you all think about this one? I think it gets at the root of the Calvinits' "determinism problem" quite well, don't you? All dialogue welcome!
Oh Horrible Decree
by Charles Wesley
Ah! Gentle, gracious Dove,
And art thou grieved in me,
That sinners should restrain thy love,
And say, “It is not free:
It is not free for all:
The most, thou passest by,
And mockest with a fruitless call
Whom thou hast doomed to die.”
They think thee not sincere
In giving each his day,

I'm sure my denomination is closer to the truth than..."
For quite a while now, I've been involved with a small group that gets together on Sunday nights and worships, prays, and does an in-depth study of the scripture. The three individuals who more or less develop and conduct the Bible study come from different denominational backgrounds, as well as a career background of writing and teaching Christian theology and doctrine. The group was originally launched by a non-denominational church, but as it has grown and formed over time, it has... -
My Favorite Hymn
What do you think about the theology of my favorite hymn? This one really gets me every time, especially the fourth. When Jesus enlightens us (as he does every man) and then when the Holy Spirit touches us and we feel his magnificent and awesome presence welling up all around and surrounding our spirits and at last we surrender to his soul-piercing call and respond with repentant brokenness and a willing following, well, there really is hardly language to describe the wonder of that... -
Why We Switched to the ESV
Here's a booklet offered free by the Westminster Bookstore for the next few days
Why Our Church Switched to the ESV by Kevin DeYoung [LINK]
"The Bible we study, the Bible used in our pulpits, the Bible read to our children is the Bible that will shape our vocabulary about God and even the way we think about God."
1. The ESV employs an “essentially literal” translation philosophy.
2. The ESV is a more transparent translation.
3. The ESV engages in less over-translation.
4. The... -
Using a Tablet as a Church Bible - Good Idea or Not?
I'm considering the purchase of a Tablet (probably either the Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 2 7") to use as my Bible I take to church.
On my Droid 4 phone I have the Bible You Version App that I love. It has most of the translations (almost all you can download to the phone so you don't have to have Wifi to view them), you can go from one translation to another in 2 presses, in Sunday School we use HCSV and in Preaching we use KJV (so it would be very simple to switch back and forth), and in 2... -
Barack Obama: Jamie Foxx's Lord and Savior
I didn't know where to post this so you admins can move it where you think it is appropriate.
I knew Jamie Foxx was dumb, but I never figured him to be an idiot.
He just called Barack Obama God, and Lord and Savior.:BangHead::BangHead:

Introverts/Extroverts
I was wondering how you ministers work with introverts and extroverts in your church. My experience is that most ministers are extroverts and sometimes have little understanding of introverts. I am an introvert and every church I have been in, the minister has tried to make introverts into extroverts.
Years ago, a new pastor said the following type thing from the pulpit: "If you can't greet a visitor in the foyer and strike up a converstaion with him using small talk, then you are not much... -
praying = speaking to God
I am opening this thread up again on tongues because DHK said I have not defended my position on "praying in the spirit." I believe I have over and over!
I want to make this plain before I start, because I have been accused of being arrogant concerning the manifestation of the Spirirt. Those that speak in tongues are not better than those that don't.
Paul makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 14..the gift of tongues should be a rare occurrence in worship service. He limited its use to three...
