If this is a site where we can come to share views, edify & enlighten, basically be a safe haven for us, then how come I get so down after posting ?
I read a post where a "christian" was basically telling somebody not to bother becoming a christian because they might not be chosen anyway.
I have read posts telling me I'm ignorant because I take the bible literally.
When I see this kind of stuff, & respond, I get depressed. Now I know that I shoudn't worry about what others think of me, but does anyone else experience this ?
Does biblical separation mean I shouldn't be here ?

Mr Curtis, I feel the same way as you do, but probably from the opposite end. I realize that I am alot more liberal than most of the people on this board and my views may differ, so when I post, it seems like everyone treats me like I am insane or my views are proposterous. From reading more posts, I almost vowed to never post on this board again, until I read even more post and found that I was not alone. That other pastors and others who are strong believers shared the same liberal views as I did. Keep in mind, we do not come to this board to change peoples views, but to share our opinions. And remember the rules of the Baptist Board, your opinions will be challenged, and if you cant handle it, dont post (or something of that nature). In the end, keep in mind that everyone on this board loves Jesus and what he did for us and are united on this board because of him.

You are right. And it just ain't worth it.
Bummer, I was getting close to my 1000th post. -

Gina: AFTER you post? I'll have to check more carefully on what you're posting sir! ;)
I read a post where a "christian" was basically telling somebody not to bother becoming a christian because they might not be chosen anyway.
Gina: It's called ignorance, and it's even found in every single church!
I have read posts telling me I'm ignorant because I take the bible literally.
Gina: Try to take into consideration how many people post here, and just try to imagine them all standing there in front of you in real life. There's going to be at least a few in that many that wouldn't even agree that the sky is blue if you paid them!
When I see this kind of stuff, & respond, I get depressed. Now I know that I shoudn't worry about what others think of me, but does anyone else experience this ?
Gina: Occasionally, yes, but usually only if I've been friends or close with the person saying it. The very fact that not everybody love what you say testifies that you aren't wishy washy and you stand firm in your beliefs, and that's a good thing.
Does biblical separation mean I shouldn't be here ?
Gina: If you are going to take it that far you'd have to take yourself off planet earth. Jesus was seperated, not by his physical actions but his spiritual ones. He was our example, so why should we follow a different one? I don't get the Christians who think Biblical seperation is staying away from non-Christians. Aren't those the people we're supposed to spend the most time on? -
AND BY THE WAY CURTIS!
You've been a tremendous blessing to me.

I've vowed to not post here about a dozen times. I never even make it a few hours & I'm back.
But lately I have been wondering a lot if this is a good idea. There are a great many posters I have a huge amount of respect for, & there are others I wish would be more prayerful about the advice I see them give. I can take a little disagreement & arguing over some things, but over & over we go into subjects that are clearly spelled out in the bible. And it's not just me. I have noticed any time someone takes a biblical stance, their motives get questioned.
Anyway, I'm done with my pity party & thanx for the face slappin'.
Thanx for putting the Baptist Board on-line. I have learned a lot here.
And Gina....right back at ya ;) -

"Therefore, you have no excuse for your willful unbelief. HOWEVER, you won't believe in God in Christ unless He wants you to believe, and enables you by His Spirit. You must be born again by the Spirit, before you will, or indeed can, believe in God."
This message made me mad. It was the reason I went crazy.

Mr. Curtis: I feel exactly as you do. I wasn't going to post anymore (...waiting for applause to end...) until I read your topic.
I was raised a Baptist and have been a born-again Christian for 40 plus years. But on this board I have seen things posted by so-called Baptists that have never been preached or promoted by ANY Baptist church I have belonged to!
Such as not all babies go to heaven when they die. Accusations and arrogance that Pentecostals and others of like faith are "lost." That if you were a Christian once and turned atheist or live a homosexual lifestyle you were never "saved" or predestined to begin with (as if these people know a person's heart at all times), that smuggling Bibles into non-Christian countries where it is against their laws is wrong, that we should not befriend Israel, we are not living in the last days, dispensationalism is wrong, adulterous pastors should be forgiven and allowed to continue to pastor, and well, I could go on and on with all the baloney I've seen here. I've even seen postings where abortion is not murder!
I am starting to think there are a lot of doctrinal kooks on this board who claim to be Baptists. I still get weekly newsletters and reports from a former big SBC church I was once a member of, and they don't promote these above wierd ideas, in fact, they are busy working for the Lord here in the states and across the world. They even promote the Jesus Film ministry.
I belong to an IBF church now and they don't promote the wierd ideas, either. We even support Voice of the Martyrs!
In fact, I've never heard all this wierd stuff preached or taught at ANY Baptist church I've ever attended; I would walk out if I ever heard such nonsense!
I thought this board was supposed to be for fellowship. Then why do topics turn into big fights under the guise of debate? I know I have had my buttons pushed a couple of times and probably posted things I shouldn't have, either. But the bottom line is, I find very little fellowship or building up of each other on this board, as admonished we are to do in Ephesians. Where are all the testimonies of what God has done in lives? Where are all the postings of answers to prayer? Of healings, of miracles, of demonstrations of the mighty Power of God?
All this wierd stuff really puts a black eye on Baptists and it is all unScriptural. It does not edify, only beats up my spirit. So, this is probably going to be my last post. (....again, waiting for applause to end) I don't know if it's the age difference, generational thing, or what. But this board gives me the blues.
If berating, putdowns, criticism, arrogance to believers of other denominations, and constant bickering is all that is here, I am choosing to move on. And I am tired of trying to defend the existance of God to all these atheists on here, too. It is quite obvious to me the only reason they come here is not to learn, but to belittle and scorn. One cannot reason with a reprobate mind. (Romans 1)
And PS, for all of you who haven't picked up on it after all these postings, I am a woman. -

Mornin' Curtis -
You'll notice that the person you cite is not even Baptist and has made the mistake of bringing himself right into my crosshairs from his very first post on this board. http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=24&t=000673&p=
If you've ever followed my posts on the board, one thing you'll notice that I detest is self-piety. Don't let this one person (okay, I know it's not one) drive YOU away. Curtis, this board is a ministry unlike any before it. It is crucial that you stay to refute these types of views. We are told in 1Corinthians that we are all part of the same body and we all serve a specific function. Also look at the instructions that Peter gives us in his Second Epistle:
You are more than a church member or a Baptist or a Baptist Board member. You are a soldier of the Cross and as such you are vital to the church's mission in this world. I cannot even begin to express the passion I feel about this subject. Every time a Christian surrenders and allows the adversary to win by default, we lose a little ground. That is not in our orders. Our orders are to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. We were never given instructions to surrender.
Same goes for you, EL!

Mr. Curtis,
Please don't leave. If all the sane people leave...
We all have these feelings from time to time. Fruitless debate is irritating and a downer. However, sound doctrine must be proclaimed. Stay with it.
I am often confrontational (probably from years of debating Creation/evolution) and have to rein myself back. Please don't let fools like me run you off.
Also, if you do get your underwear in a wad, send a pm to the person and have a "private" conversation. Usually much more productive. -

Never get discouraged in posting no matter how much others agree or disagree with you because you might be surprised who really is reading some of the posts on these sites.
I used to post on Crosswalk and because of some of my posts about different subjects I had the privelege of finding out that individuals came to know the Lord Jesus.
Even when someone disagrees with you it might seem to hurt at first but always make it a time of learning. -
EagleLives911,
Ok, ok, so I thought you were a guy. Don't worry, I have a BAD habit of not being able to tell people apart, there was a poor guy on here once that changed his name after I thought he was a woman and then asked me if it sounded manly enough, lol!
Have you ever considered something like "FluffyFuzzyCuddlyEagleLives911" by any chance??? :D
Seriously though, I'm glad you're here, I like your posts,I like your website, and if you leave me now... (hehe, if anyone recognizes that song just tell the others it's an old IFB standard)

I was looking up the incident where Connieman got in Kurt's site's and I agree. I don't know Connieman but I am Prayerfully wondering if possibly they might like to retract any of this statement. It seems to me he has got the Holy spirit a little misunderstood.

Curtis,
Don't go. Nuff said.
Besides, if you go, I'll feel bad about never having apologized to you.
Grit your teeth and hang in there. One of the things I've noticed here on Baptist Board is that these things are cyclical and this cycle has almost run it's course.

Thanx everyone. Really. I do love this board.
To Smoke Eater, what do you have to apologize to me for ? I don't feel offended by you. I know we disagree with some things, but you are one of the folks here I would most like to meet.
Again, thanx for the support, everyone. Blessings have abounded on me.

"Optional states: "Fruitless debate is irritating and a downer."
I have seen no debate on here that is fruitless (although the people in the debate might think they are banging their head against a wall.) There are many of us who did not cut their teeth in the Baptist church. These debates are very fruitful and insightful. Perhaps someday I will feel comfortable enough to jump into one of the hot ones, but I have a lot to learn first and the debates are just one tool I use to learn. I somehow dont think the BB would get a whole lot of hits if everyone agreed. Hang in there Mr. C.
