Hmph, can't lay claim to beauty or brains. The basket idea was not mine. I wish it was but I got it from the parent of one of the kids classmates several years ago and that I believe is how our PTO came up with the idea of a basket auction. We used to just ask for donations from local businesses and aution off whatever it was. Then we got to where we would throw smaller but related items in a basket to save on time. And now we just do themed baskets.

We also had a grill basket (complete with charcoal grill), Fall basket(filled with fall decorative stuff), a golf basket (don't ask what was in that, I only caught the tail end of it) and a bunch of other stuff. If they put it on the school website I'll link to it, but they hadn't put it up last I looked (I will not complain, again, about the school tech folk, no I won't, grrrr!).

I've done what I plan on doing in the house. :D The kids can do the rest when they get home as it is their friends that are coming tomorrow. Not much left except a few dishes, the upstairs bathroom and the vacuuming. That won't take long with 3 extra sets of hands. I'm enjoying lunch and then have to head across town with some sewing.

Jim, we "fast" quite often at our house, but my poor pool has been fasting for at least 2 weeks, so I have to tend to it. Plus, Walmart is on my to pick up the kids at school, so I really have no excuse not to stop.

I do the 'basket' thing for baby and bridal shower gifts and sometimes for birthdays. It always goes over really well.

A member here, "chickenlady" has a web site where she makes beautiful baskets and sells them. Maybe you can get some ideas from there. I believe her thread is in General Baptist and is titled, "Working from Home" or something similar.

We are just about finished with school and I'm sending Brent to the post office on his bicycle and I'm going to try and sneak in a short power nap!

Company is still here. Having garlic baked chicken, unpeeled mashed potatoes, pinwheel salad, and fruit and cheese for dessert.

    I'll pop in later,

No time for napping here Sue, so enjoy yours doubly!

It's just about church time, I need to stir together a cake and some cookie dough. The kids are getting their schedules straight about who's coming where and when. I may end up with a housefull of kids and teenagers tomorrow. I might need Rob's movie basket! I always expect others when school is out, but I stepped in it deep when I told Cass that not only could her fella come up for a visit, but after they did karate she could invite the other kids(there are only two more) in her class over to watch a movie. Chris has his buddy over already (yes I'm a glutton, but it is church night :D ). Maybe, just maybe, I can send Jenna off to the neighbors, elsewise there is the potential to have 8 kids in my house all at one time! Acckkkk! I did set the limit that everyone had to be gone by 4 pm. I guess it's a good thing that they all have school on Friday. (see Jim, this is why my house is in constant need of cleaning!)

I'm going to finish my cup of coffee and then get back to busy! See ya!

LOL Jim! I think I'll make that suggestion and see how well it goes over.:tonofbricks:

Nah, I'm the mean mother that expects everyone to pick up after themselves (children are NOT guests!) and for the most part they all do! The ones who are here regularly just throw on in without even being asked. Those that think I'm a maid instead of a mother, don't get invited back. Of course I expect my kids to reciprocate whenever they go somewhere else.

Everyone have a nice Wednesday service?

Hey, you're the one who told me to keep preaching/venting. You just keep sticking with Scripture and preaching/venting and you'll do just fine. My wife posts on a website calledhomeschoolchristian.com. Click on the fellowship section and look for "OK Glenda." That's her. They have some good discussions there.

HAGD!...and no need for that:BangHead:  You're right on track!:godisgood:

    Morning Everybody,

What a night! My 76 yr. old Mother-in-Law took a tumble in her bathroom about midnight. She tripped, then tried to grab something to break her fall, and her head collided with the metal latch on her bathroom door. She called my Wife and I and my Daughter & I took off for her house. I swear I thought I'd walked into an axe murder. She is on coumadin blood thinner, and was bleeding from the face, hands, and head. We got her to the hospital double quick, and they patched up the cuts, then did a CT scan of her head to eliminate possible intercranial bleeding. She passed the CT scan with flying colors, and is now back at home nursing her wounds.

I'm tired, I've been up since 7am yesterday.

I brought in fruit stuffed french toast, with sausage/bacon, fruit syrups(incl. sugar-free) & juice. Enjoy.

I ran across a couple of quotes that our fearless housekeepers might appreciate. "Dust is a protective covering", and "A meticulously clean house is a sure sign of an impending visit by female relatives." That's the sum of my knowledge-didn't take long did it?

Time to grab some z's for awhile.

LOL, I'm going to make me a t-shirt that says that!

Well bring on the the teenagers! The house is as clean as I care to make considering I'm going to be invaded by kids and it's raining.

The rain means I don't have to deal with the pool which is especially good cause I never did make it back to Walmart. Jim, you must have more influence than you thought.

You know the good thing about having a household full of kids? Built in chaperones!

Thanks for breakfast Rob! I know wht you mean about the coumadin. T's grandmother was on it ages ago. She nicked her toe once, just barely, and it literally spurted blood. The place was so small you could hardly see it. Took about a hour to get it stopped.

    Ya'll have a good day!

I am beginning to sing that secular song: Rainy days and rainy nights..........It is raining again! When the rain puddles instantly, I know the ground has had enough. It is like drinking a glass of water and not quite getting the glass to the lips. Even the dogs look both ways before they cross the threshold.

Hey, more computer time,,,,,maybe...I knew there had to be something good about all this rain.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I know my dad was on coumadin for a long time back in the 80s. When I was taking Pharmacology in college I did research on all the meds that he took and was astounded when I found out that coumadin was originally used as a rat poison  I couldn't believe it!

We have a dear lady at church who used to run the preschool and still does the Sunday School for the 2-3 year olds - as she's done for the last 60 years! Well, she's on coumadin and I can't believe what that stuff does to her! I know she has her levels checked but I still think it's too high because just a sneeze made the blood vessels in her eye burst and her eye was blood red for weeks! She fell at VBS and broke her nose - and was hospitalized for weeks because she lost so much blood. Honestly, we used abdominal pads to absorb all the blood and we went through 3 by the time she left for the hospital. It was amazing!

Well, today we went to the park with some other moms and it was so nice. Poor Joanna got tired fast, though, and she's now asleep on the den floor - NOT a normal thing for an almost 4 year old. I'm going to do an abbreviated homeschool day - just phonics, reading and math - we'll double up on history and science tomorrow - because it's almost 2 and I only have an hour and a half before I have to go horseback riding. When I get home, I'll quickly shower, have dinner then we'll have a nice dessert for DH for his 46th birthday - I already gave him his gift (a Cuisinart Grind and Brew Thermal coffee maker). Then it's a nice relaxing night watching Survivor, CSI and ER (but I have to make sure the kids are in bed before CSI because that's just too gory in the beginning).

Originally, coumadin was called Warfarin....rat poison. That's why they changed the name for humans... Warfarin was actually cheaper........

I have not heard of this happening to anyone else. The same thing happened to me when I was dialysis back in 2003. I was so sick for so long that the coughing and vomiting put too much strain on me and my eyes filled with blood. It went on for so long even the skin under my eyes turned black. Jimmy and I would go to Wal-Mart and people would look at me and then look at him real hard. Everyone thought he had beat me up pretty good. It took several months for my eyes to get back to normal.

I probably wouldn't have gone out of the house!

Jim - That must have been what we used when I was a teen on the rats in the yard. We had the exterminator come and he said that the poison was a blood thinner and the rats would just kind of bleed to death internally. I remember that there was an antidote in case any dogs or cats got into it, which they never did.

    I survived!!!! :D

All extra kids except Second Son have gone home and he thinks he is at home. The house is still in one piece, I managed to get some sewing done, Cass is dumping fella and I even baked a pound cake (1/2 splenda, 1/2 sugar) that turned out beautifully. I will definately be keeping this recipe.

So, I've been a good mother and productive today, mark this on your calendars cause it doesn't happen much!

The rain that wasn't supposed to be here until tonight seems to be clearing. I see sunshine. Probably means I need to go clean the leaves out of the pool. It's not going to happen, I've been productive enough. I bet it's going to be cold tomorrow. The weather man said something about cool air coming in after the rain. I think I'll go check out the weather site.

Hubby is on Coumadin and has been for over a year. He has his pro-time checked at the lab every two weeks. They can't get his blood count where they want it, so his dosage changes twice a month.

All blood thinners are derived from rat poison. It's not a pleasant thought, but it keeps hubby from having another serious heart attack.

Two weeks before he had surgery, he had to stop taking Coumadin and give himself injections of Lovinox (sp?) in the stomach everyday to keep from bleeding out during his procedure. That was sure fun....NOT!

Thanks, Oasis! I love messing with the neat animated graphics on my Holiday pages and I try to put SOMEthing educational on each one!

    Good morning all,

It is a 'crisp' 32º here this morning! It's going to be much worse when Brent camps out with the Boy Scouts Saturday night. I believe the high Sunday is going to be 49º. I'll save MY camping for the summer months!

My out-of-state company left last evening, so it's time to get the house reorganized. One of these days I'm going to stop cleaning house before company comes and just clean it after they leave...

    Time for coffee,

Afternoon all! I got Joanna out to preschool at 9:30 and then worked at church through her school (with my almost 6 year old with me) and got it almost all done by the time she was done. I just had to go back and do the announcements for Sunday, and I was done. We're beginning a series on Romans and this was the introduction I did in PowerPoint for Sunday - I can't wait! I LOVE doing book studies in church - it takes forever (years) but it's the best way to learn the Word of God, IMO. You can't miss any of the tricky verses because everyone would know you skipped it!

The rest of today is just hanging out at home, driving the girls to church for their tambourine worship team, driving home, driving back up to get one of the girls who is being punished and can't go to youth group tonight, go BACK up yet again later tonight to pick up the other daughter who CAN go to youth group. Yep - lots of car travel. :D DH is away this weekend on the men's retreat so it's going to be a low-key weekend with cleaning, horseback riding, videos and such.

    Ann
