I have met a couple of them that gladly wear the name "Arminian." Both of them were from the Wesleyan Church which is unabashedly Arminian.
But as most people don't know what the 5 points of Arminianism are, they don't realize that what they believe lines up quite nicely with the 5 points of the Remonstrance.

They just reject the title because they think we're calling names or creating false labels. heck- i woulda thought that. but again- i was ignorant. sometimes i wish i had studied the issue out earlier, but then- everything happens on God's timetable. -

It is the dishonesty of the debate when one says they do not agree with arminius on many things, yet it seems (like JW's) that they are program to use arguement A. for this or arguement B. for this so that when they come up against someone who does not fit that label they go crashing forward building the strawman without real honest debate. It is the dishonesty that is frustrating not the name. If you really want to irrate them then call'em a calvnist.

Cassidy;
Let's not forget Salvation by Baptism and Inherited election. Both of these points have been dropped by present day Calvinist. However it just goes to show that Calvinism wavers like a reed in the wind. We can't really expect anything less from Calvinism founded on the root of Catholicism. We still cannot get good fruit from a rotten tree. After all the Calvinist's mentor stated there is no Salvation apart from the church.

Does that include John Calvin's assertion concerning infant baptism being scriptural?
-
Hi Diane;
I believe it does include infant baptism.
It's really to bad that most Calvinist haven't read the insitiutes of Christianity. Who knows it might cause them to see the truth that Calvinism, obviously isn't.

The Canons of the Synod of Dordt can be found in several places on the internet including here http://www.reformed.org/documents/index.html?mainframe=synod_of_dort.html and by reading them you will see there are Five Heads Of Doctrine in the original text of 1619 and not seven as ILUVLIGHT falsely claims.
And by reading the canons you will see that baptism is only mentioned in the conclusion and that only to counteract the lies being told about Reformed Church doctrine (it seems some things never change :( ) Here is the only statement in the text of 1619 that contains the word "baptism" -
I was being facetious, Dr. Cassidy.

Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped. - Elbert Hubbard (1856–1915) an American author, publisher, and iconoclast. -
Diane, thanks for these polls. At last check there were only 4 who called themselves arminian, and 11 who called themselves calvinists. I believe the big discrepancy is because those who do not agree with the teachings of man don't consider themselves followers of any man. Calvinists are more vocal that they DO follow the teachings of man to a "T".
