Can unbelievers have spiritual gifts?
Dr. Ed Young of second Baptist Houston's "the winning walk" program was saying that unbelievers can have spiritual gifts....."just look at Judas" he says. I don't buy that.....thoughts?:type: -
Open Air Preaching
Open Air
Check me out. This is one of two open air sermons I did that day. In the other video someone spit at me, and I had more hecklers than in this one. Sinners mostly just ignore me, but I faithfully and bodily proclaimed the word of God which is what counts. My voice carries well, however I misquoted a few verses and can improve my delivery at times. -
The Meaning of "parousia" in Greek
The Greek word parousia (parousia) has important implications for the debate on preterism. In the "Some Standing Here" thread I made two points on the word from Greek linguistics. Those points have not yet been discussed there, and I thought they would make for a good thread. The meaning of the word has never been really been discussed on the BB, although asterisktom posted about it here:... -
Soul Winning-
http://www.spurgeon.org/misc/sw08.htm
Brethren, we have been greatly disappointed, have we not, with some of our converts? We shall always be disappointed with them so far as they are our converts. We shall greatly rejoice over them when they prove to be the Lord's work. When the power of grace works in them, ("Glory!") then it will be, as my brother says, "Glory!" and nothing else but glory; for grace brings glory, but mere oratory will only create sham and shame in the long... -
sinners by nature
Eph 2:1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
Eph 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
Eph 2:3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. (NASB, emphasis mine)

Women in Ministry...a 3rd position:
This is an interesting article from Gateway Church in Texas:
http://gatewaypeople.com/sites/all/files/pdf/position_papers/Role of Women in Ministry.pdf
Here are their summary statements:
We believe in the value of women in all aspects of ministry with the exception of those areas that exercise governmental authority within the church. Furthermore, we believe God has ordained the family unit to serve as a model for the entire church with the father as the head of the... -
"I went to heaven and came back" books
What are your thoughts and experiences with these books? I see that there are numerous ones on the market and I see Christians raving about them but in my opinion, they are at the very least wrong and at the worst dangerous. What say you? -
God help us
On the NBC news they just reported that the Boy Scouts will no longer ban openly homosexual men from being in charge of the boys.
God have mercy. :BangHead: -
Lack of education on logic the problem
These last couple of weeks have been very revealing about the lack of education of members on baptistboard. Not all by any means- but many.
Now, I don't just mean a lack of seminary education. I do not think that that is essential at all.
But I do think ANYBODY who speaks as authoritatively as many speak on baptistboard on issues as important as the VERY NATURE AND CHARACTER OF GOD should know what logic is.
They may learn this through seminary, they may learn it through personal study... -
Ash Wednesday
Upon looking at my February calendar I noticed that Ash Wednesday is on Feb., 13th. Now I was raised as a RC & to that particular church Ash Wednesday is very significant. Traditionally a RC Priest puts ashes on your forehead as a reminder to you & all that.....Man you are dust & to dust you will return. Then that day ushers in the Lenten season.
Ive always viewed it as a time for reflection, but knowing its man made, Ive had reservations about this as a traditional practice for a...
