Religious beliefs of the founding fathers
Good Christian folks exist in either of the two theological positions.
I just post this to make this point: If Calvinism is "heresy" or "false doctrine" as so many "non-cals" so often state on here, then our founding fathers were largely a bunch of heretics. Below are the religious views of the signers of the Constitution.
I found this that someone worked out. The religious view identified is consistent with the statement of faith for the particular denomination of which the founder was... -
Insight into me
I grew up in a fundamentalist movement where very uneducated people screamed and hollered in condemnation of things- and they were very ignorant biblically, historically, etc... concerning those things.
I came to do the same. And when many of those "heroes" of mine started falling and letting me down, one day I sat down and said, "This stuff I have been led to believe by these people- does it really hold water?"
I went to the Scripture and these issues began to fail the test of bible... -
Talking during church
Is it, or is it not a sign of disrespect to the speaker, musicians, and other church members to chit-chat during the singing, offering, special music, and/or the sermon? It is perfectly acceptable to "catch up" on all the latest news with your neighbor while the choir is singing? Is the offering a time for meditation, or a time to giggle behind the church bulletins?
Recently we visited a church and I was disappointed to hear at least half the congregation chit-chatting all through the... -

Christ Died on what day?
Was it Wed, Thur, or Friday? -
Does it matter why a person "comes to Christ" or just that a person comes???
For example, I've been hearing messages to students that were basically "accept Jesus so you don't have to go to hell" or "... so you can go to heaven and see your friends and family" or "so you don't have to go through the rapture" and so on....
I believe that you follow Jesus b/c the Spirit awakens you from death to realize that Jesus is all satisfying and God's glory is why you would pursue him.
But is the philosophy that as long as they are saved it really doesn't matter how? So if... -
Re spirits in Prison and the common view
Re spirits in Prison and the common view
The common view misunderstands the antitype Peter sees in Baptism, he clearly said this isn't about water: "(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1Pe 3:21 NKJ)
The antitype then is
12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. (Col 2:12 NKJ)
Therefore we were... -
Some of the serious NT warnings to the churches
Rom 2:6-9 --- God will give eternal life to those who persistently continue in going good,
------------- but wrath and anger to the selfish who do not obey the truth and follow evil.
Rom 8:13-14 - If you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the
------------- Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live
------------- (for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God).
Rom 12:1-2 -- It is the good, acceptable, perfect will of God that you... -
What makes a couple married
I did not want to guide another thread on marriage down a different rabbit track and decided to post my question in a new thread.
What makes a marriage a marriage in God's eye.
It is:
a marriage certificate?
a ceremony performed in a church or before a justice?
a commitment between two people who love for each other to be faithful and live their life together with no marriage certificate or ceremony?

Church discipline?
I am starting this thread to keep from derailing another one. In the other thread (Unmarried "Couples") Old Regular stated a situation and Annsi implied that it was a Matthew 18 situation.
There is a difference between a sin against God and a trespass against a brother or sister. This seems to be a major problem in the so called modern church. Most churches today do not want to make a distinction between the two for fear...
