But didn't he say so on the 911 tape?

Yes. Once I read that (and I posted about this earlier today) I realized it was an Islamic terror attack.

No citizen needs a car that goes 100 mph.
No citizen needs a phone with 256 bit encryption.

Do you have these things? Why? Planning on doing something illegal?

If our government becomes tyrannical and comes after us with assault weapons then yes we need them.

Therein lies the rub. Seemingly, the basic definition would be a semi auto (full automatic firearms are all ready strictly regulated and have been since the 1930s), magazine fed rifle. The rest is a matter of cosmetics. The problem is this definition includes a whole range of rifles which have no military lineage.

Ah, but that definition fits assault weapons--which include handguns. CTB's and the president's imprecise language opens over 50% of weapons sold today to be identified as "assault."

I've had a hard time today discussing this with relatives who agreed with the initial statements about Obama's muslim refugee policies (which I disagree with, for the record), pointing out that the 29-year old shooter was born in New York approximately 1987; meaning that if we're going to blame a president's immigration policies, we'd have to blame Reagen, or Carter, or Ford, or Nixon....

Actually, I disagree. "Assault" is a verb. It is something a person does. A person may commit "assault" but a firearm is just a chunk of metal and possibly polymer. It is an inert tool. It can't do anything on its own, including assaulting anyone.

The term has been applied to military type firearms as they are exclusively designed to assault the enemy. But no modern sporting rifle, or pistol, for that matter, was designed exclusively for that purpose. Even my 1911A1 is a target pistol used in competition matches. Due to modifications necessary for use in competition it would make a terrible military sidearm. It has never, is not, and hopefully will never, be used to assault anyone. :)

And thus, my primary point regarding the impreciseness of language being used.

For the powder monkeys among us, I would bring to remembrance the British WW1 vintage bolt action, 10 round non-detachable magazine SMLE. For many various and sundry reasons, with the proper practice, its ten round magazine can be fired off with accuracy almost as fast as a semi-auto.

When I posted the thread, the numbers were 20. It was only a few hours later that it climbed to 50. The number killed in the name of radical Islam is horrific! We need to do what Israel does, and send a few missles into the heart of one of the terrorist held cities in Syria or Iraq! But we won't!!!

No surprise here. Muslims hate homosexuals and persecute them all around the world. It's just a hateful "religion".

    Imagine that.:Laugh

I heard a satellite talk show host address that this past weekend and she mentioned Tulsa and Rosewood as just two of the ones that came to mind.
