Slander ? Wow. Pretty big word. The only unproven statement on the whole thread was Johnv's "He started drinking because of legalism" . He hasn't supplied anything to back that up.

Actually, Driscoll discusses this in "Radical Reformission", pages 145-147, or thereabouts, where he talks about how he abstained and expected everyone else to do the same, and how he eventually came to realize his attitude was sinful, afterwhich he repented of it.

Yep - exactly that is it.

I have to admit I have heard many negative things about Driscoll. I heard him speak on a few occasions years ago. I have not held a favorable view of him for many years, and rightly so based on his own admissions of his practices and beliefs. I listened however, to Annsni's link to Driscoll's message on the "emerging church", and have to say that this particular message was spot on in my opinion. It was a truly great message that I enjoyed immensely. And if those indeed are his views today as an older and more mature preacher then I say praise God! I would hope that all of us who are pastors have grown in wisdom, and become more refined in our faith as we have gotten older. Driscoll's message to me seemed to reflect a man who has matured in his faith, repented of past mistakes, and is only interested in reaching the lost with the message of the gospel.

The message I get from Driscoll is that our eternity is already settled. And, I don't care what people say in his defense. His own words do him in

In chapter fourteen, Jesus actually yells at his friends for taking a nap late at night after running them all over the place for about three years as an obvious workaholic who needed to start drinking decaf and listening to taped sounds of running water while doing aromatherapy so he could learn to relax.

I'd like to hear the explaining away on this one. I can tell you, if a preacher said that from my pulpit in church, I'd be pulling a Wilson and hollering something at him.

Once again, I'd like to hear the context. I don't have this book although I do want to get it.

Add in Andy Stanley. Hubby and I laughed one night as we snuggled in bed, all cozy in each other's arms ..... each with an ear bud in one ear while we listened to Andy Stanley's sermon on prayer. I wonder how many other couples do that?? ;) He's really solid.

Listen to some of his other messages. He's funny to listen to - a bit in your face sometimes (which, knowing his audience, is understandable) and he's rock solid on theology, IMO. Yeah, there are a few things I don't agree with him on but I don't agree with everyone on everything except Jesus Christ. :)

Actually, Driscoll is a leader in the Emergent movement, not a "profound expositor of God's word".

.

He clearly says he is not Emergent and denounces the Emergents. He calls himself "Emerging Reformed," which holds to conservative doctrine. See this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58fgkfS6E-0

I am not for Driscoll or against him; but we should be accurate about what we say about him. He likes Calvin and the Calvinists - he names several in the clip above that he admires.

He says he is part of the "Emerging Reformers" which he distinguishes from the "Emerging Liberals" (Rob Bell, Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt). He says they include the Emergent Village and that they are off the highway "lost in the woods."

This is a video where Driscoll talks about how he was in the Emerging movement but has left the liberal stream of this group.

Russell Moore is dean of the Theology school, not president, at SBTS

Try Alistair Begg at www.truthforlife.org. It's like hearing MacArthur's content with Swindoll's style and practicality. Glory oozes through the radio!

I'm getting an IPod soon, to listen to podcasts.

I like Garvin Dykes, Johnny Campell, Neal Beard, you know, people Rick Warren refers to as "the enemy". I like IFB, non-Calvinist, eternal security believers, who shy away from Jack Hyles, and preach out of the KJV.
