    what do these mean ?

Faggots are a minced up mixture of offal and onions and are quite highly spiced delicious with mushy peas, mashed potatoes and gravy .

Catsup - Americanised spelling of kethcup, red sauce
jerkin - I think an alternate name for jerkie - dried strips of spiced beef
chow chow - a relish, like finely ground pickle, usually spicy
fajiters - fajitas, chicken or beef cokked with peppers and onions and eaten in a mexican tortilla wrap

No catsup in England? Wow..or maybe you say ketchup? It's a tomato based sauce, close to spagetti sauce in taste and texture.

    Chow chow..a very hot relish

jerkin...usually some kind of dried meat you can carry around and chew on.

fajitas...a torilla stuffed and rolled with whatever ingedients you like, usually ground beef, toatoes, lettuce, beans, seasonings, cheese..it's a Mexican dish

I have never heard of...uhm, "faggots"..?! It means something entirely different over here!

    Love,

    Sopranette

Our first year in Mexico, we hosted all of the church members for a Thanksgiving dinner- turkey, ham, mashed taters, gravy, we even imported pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce.

Imagine our shock when people kept asking where the chilies were!

You cannot have a meal down here without the chilies!

Not even butter-flavored microwave popcorn- gotta have hot sauce on that, too. Actually it is pretty good!

    RE: Odd eating habits

I have eaten squirrel MANY times, but not a whole lot with gravy...but the gravy is good!! I have to admit that one time, my dad and I went hunting and a fellow fixed some squirrels. I noticed the older men were crushing the heads and eating the brains. I tried it, and it was pretty good. But I haven't did this in years!!

Anyone ever eat Ground hog. I think it may be called a Hedge Hog, also? These are GOOD! A fellow dad used to hunt with, onetime his wife fixed one and told dad to come and eat with them. I tagged along and ate some, as well. This was some good eating!! She cooked it and then baked it with some potatoes and maybe carrots. It tasted a lot like a roast!

    Fried rabbit is DEEE-LICIOUS!!

Canned biscuit dough makes good dumplings over a chicken. Just open the cannister and "pinch" the dough off in small chunks and drop them into the kettle of chicken. UMMMMMMMM HUMMMMMMM!!!

Anyone ever eat 'Mountain Oysters"? If you don't know what they are, they are pig testicles. Yuck!! Back in 1987, my paw paw trimmed about 7 young sholts(30-50 lb pigs). He tossed them to a dog(who ate everyone of them). Right after he had trimmed the sholts, a man came and found out about what happened. He told me that he would have took them and made "Mountain Oyster" stew!!
    To quote Npetreley....EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I believe chow chow is made from cabbage, not pickles. It can be mild or spicy.

I was explaining for this side of the pond - pickle does not necessarily man cucumbers - it is anything pickled.

chow chow is a relish with a cabbage, green tomato and onion base, people put it in beans, we like ours hot, which means it has hot banana peppers in it.

there are no pickles or cucumbers in chow chow. My grandmother made the best chow chow I've ever had.
