The sun is out exuding its warmth, and this soul is delighting in its presence. It is not quite short trouser weather, but can it be far behind?
Yesterday, I was out and about in my orchard, and spying for early buds on the fruit trees. If all continues, it looks like another bumper crop.
I love the out of doors.
Cheers, the ogre of the North,
Jim -
What kind of fruit grows in your orchard, Bro Jim?
-
Hi Gayla,
We have 17 apple trees, two new plum trees and just started some peach trees. Plan to plant some cherry trees this year. My daughter decided she would like some fruit trees on the land she will inherit eventually.
For years, I have collected apples and delivered them to seniors in the area.
Cheers,
Jim -
My mother tried to grow peach trees when we were in Houston. They were extremely unsuccessful.
What she had great success with was figs. I can still taste the jam she used to make. It was fabulous.
We had a lemon tree too. No lemons -- but it was so fragrant. -
Hi Mc...The peach trees are supposed to be for this climate. They are dwarf trees and should bear fruit this year. We shall see how they survived the winter. There are fresh buds all over the tree, so it looks good.
I started a lemon tree indoors many years ago. It didn't give any fruit either, but it grew so high it was bending around the ceiling. I can't remember what happened to that tree, but it was fun at the time.
I am not the most knowledgable horticulturalist. I don't even remember the names of flowers, but it is fun and good exercise. I once worked hard to keep a plant going because I liked it..turned out it was a weed!
Cheers,
Jim -
One man's weed . . .
;) -
There are some very pretty weeds! My wife is always asking me, "Is that a weed or a flower?"
We have loads of wild flowers growing in one of the fields,,,wild daisies for one...I get a guilt complex when I must mow them down.
Cheers,
Jim -
That's exactly what I was thinking -- like the Queen Anne's Lace growing beside the road. We get a teeny yellow flower growing wild here. Lovely. So many beautiful weeds!
-
I remember my mother trying to get rid of "weeds" with pretty pink flowers in Oklahoma.
When I got married and moved to Las Vegas, NV, those pink "weeds" were called some kind of Primrose and sold for about $5 in a gallon bucket! -
I am a calvinist. JUst wanted to see what happens....lol. I am naughty, aren't I.
Cheers,
Jim -
What's a calvinist?
Did I just open a can of worms????  -
Jim, are you really a Calvinist or did you just say it because you wanted a reaction? ;)
(or were you just predestined to be naughty?? :D ) -
Mcdirector,
If I wasn't a Calvinist, I would be hopefully lost in the world of academia. I was, however, also predetermined to be naughty all the time. I am English, you know.
Cheers,
Jim -
LOL @ Jim
-
Hello Sheila, welcome back.
Sheila understands wot I am saying. She is English too, you know, but not as naughty as me.
Cheers,
Jim -
Jim,
Thanks for the welcome.
It is interesting to read what is happening in your garden. I need to spend more time in mine...
Blessings
Sheila -
Hi Sheila!
I am disappointed in the BBC America channel, there doesn't seem to be any scheduled programing of the Queen's Birthday Celebrations. Is there going to be much now, or will that wait until the Trooping the Colour in June? (least I think it's June) -
Gayla,
You are quite right, the Trooping of the Colours, the official day of the Queen's birth celebration is in June,,around June 11th....not sure of the date this year.
In Canada, we observe it on May 22nd this year,,called Victoria Day....it is a public holiday. At one time it included fireworks displays, flying the Union Jack, and great celebrations....To-day, it is just an excuse for a holiday, I fear...time to open the cottages!
Cheers,
Jim
