Like peeling an onion, when we delve into this difficult passage, we find layers and layers of possible meanings. Lets have some fun and at least think about all the issues this passage lays before the Bible student. Many of the insights into possible meanings of this passage were derived from a commentary by Karen H. Jobes on 1 Peter.
1 Peter 1:1-2 NASB:
‘Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and...
Does it go beyond orthodoxy, and head into being False Gospel message?
John 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Jesus was giving the conditions of when this promise of the permnanent indwelling Holy Spirit will be sent:
John 14:18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19Yet a little while, and the...
I think I just got dumped or pushed aside by a potential girl/friend because I am of the Way of the Master mindset. This woman is a Fundamentalist, and practices the doctrine of SEPARATION to the core. Way of the Master is a Conservative evangelical para church ministry.
I am a confrontational evangelist and I think she has a problem with Ray Comfort's lack of Biblical separation. She also has a problem with me wanting to speak with false teachers to try and persuade them of their...
1. Election is a sovereign free act of God, through which He determines who shall be made heirs of heaven.
True, supported by Romans 9:18
2. The elective decree was made in eternity.
False, but close to truth. An elective decree was made in eternity whereby God chose us (corporately as believers in Christ) in Him from the foundation of the world. But God brings his plan of redemption to fruition during the lifetime of those chosen (specific individual election) based on God crediting...
Does it matter if the divorce was "scripturally correct?"
Does it matter if was done before becoming a Christian?
Does it matter if person stayed single?
Or does the Bible teach IF divorced. disqualified from serving as Elder/pastor etc period?
is the concept of God knowing all future events same as His causing all future events?
Did God Cause Fall of Satan. Adam & Eve , or Allow For it?
just trying to see just HOW much God is in "direct control"
In Acts 16 Paul tells the deeper of the prison that he will be saved "and all thy house" (KJV) and later in the passage goes on to describe the keeper being baptised and "all his". (there are other similar passages)
Did the early Church believe that when the head of the house choose Christ that he choose Christ for all of his household?
Did these sorts of descriptions lead to the belief of some that "since mama was Christian I am too"?
Much has been said about this verse by Van and others--pointing to grammatical arguments that are hopelessly flawed in an attempt to make our faith the basis of God's choosing us.
Here is the verse in question:But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. (ESV)
Here it is in Greek:Ἡμεῖς δὲ ὀφείλομεν εὐχαριστεῖν τῷ θεῷ πάντοτε περὶ ὑμῶν,...
Since this is the hot topic of the century, I thought I would ask why those who have come to understand the doctrines of grace to be biblical doctrines, what was it that opened your eyes?
What got me thinking about these areas of doctrine was the controversy. I spent time reading both sides of the argument and frankly was frustated by it. I decided to stop listening to debates and arguments and turned to the Lord and asked His help.
I prayed that as I read through the Bible, if it...
